An EMD GP20 is a 4-axle diesel locomotive built by General Motors Electro-Motive Division between November 1959 and April 1962.
While the EMD SD24 with six axles was producing 2400 Hp with an engine of the same displacement, the four axle GP20 was limited to 2000 Hp by the capabilities of the traction motors of the time.

EMD AB6 — a unique cab-equipped booster built for the Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railroad.
Cowl units, originally produced at the request of the Santa Fe, had a full-width 'cowl' body built on a hood unit frame which provided all the structural strength; the bodywork was cosmetic, rather than a load-bearing bridge truss frame as in cab units.
The vast majority were EMD engines and components inside a carbody built by another manufacturer, since EMD did not have the ability to build their own bodies until 1936.

The EMD BL2 is a four-axle B-B road switcher built by General Motors Electro-Motive Division (EMD).
EMD's diesel program was well underway in the late 1940s and early 1950s, thanks to the success of the company's FT demonstrations across the country.
Another problem facing EMD was that ALCO was making inroads into a market that EMD would have liked to keep to themselves; ALCO's RS series switchers were starting to take over many of the tasks that EMD wanted to fulfill with their own locomotives.

EMD made a GP28 from March 64-November 65.It had a 561D1 prime mover rated at 1800 hp..Only 26 was produce.
EMD went on to produce the GP20 and 60 "Omaha" GP20's.
I've been told that the BL20-2 was one of EMD's last attempts to market a four axle road switcher and that there were no takers as several railroads were dumping their excess Geeps on the market for little more than an expensive automobile at that time.

 Electro-Motive Corporation
EMD can lay claim to being the company that ended the dominion of the steam locomotive on the world's railroads, by both producing high-quality, reliable locomotives, and just as importantly (maybe more so) knowing how to sell them.
EMD began turbocharging the 567 around 1959; the final version, the 567D3A (built 10/63 to about 1/66) produced 2500 horsepower (1860 kW) in V16 form.
EMD also built a turbocharged V20 that produced 3600 hp (2.7 MW) for the SD45, but that was their first and last 20-cylinder engine.

By the end of the 1930s, EMD had a diesel engine powerful and reliable enough for road locomotive use; the new technology found its first uses in glittering prow-nosed passenger locomotives, but EMD's eye was on the meat - freight service.
In 1949, EMD opened a new plant in London, Ontario which was operated by subsidiary General Motors Diesel (GMD), producing existing EMD as well as unique GMD designs for the Canadian domestic and export markets.
The 1960s saw EMD consolidate their position as the dominant locomotive builder in the USA; new, high power locomotives, like the 3000 horsepower (2.2 MW) EMD SD40 and the 3600 horsepower (2.7 MW) EMD SD45 V20 were produced and proved highly successful.

The war, however, was in the end a godsend for EMD; while it was allowed to continue to develop the diesel locomotive and to sell it to railroads, its competitors in the locomotive industry - principally the American Locomotive Company (Alco) and the Baldwin Locomotive Works - were prohibited from any work with diesel locomotives.
