Seattle TMJ or Tempromandibular Joint Syndrome Information
The EMG's of the temporal and masseter muscles in 60 TMD patients and 30 controls were recorded during rhythmical open-close-clench movement before and after occlusal splint therapy.
The variation of the masseter and anterior temporalis postural EMG activity during vigilance and after hypnosis was studied and referenced to vertical dimension.
This study compared the mean EMG amplitude of the temporalis and masseter muscles during maximal bite in the intercuspal position in 39 patients with functional disorders of the chewing apparatus and 45 control subjects.

eMedicine - Visual Analysis of Neonatal EEG : Article by Samuel Koszer, MD
The EEG test typically is run for 60 minutes or more to ensure the recording of at least one change in sleep state (a full sleep cycle in the neonate is typically 50-60 min).
Low-to-moderate voltage, continuous EEG pattern with rapid eye movements; irregular respirations and cardiac rate; decreased chin EMG activity; and quick irregular movements of the fingers, hand, or face characterize active sleep.
The discontinuous EEG pattern of TA is distinguished from BS by the presence of higher amplitude interburst activity, reactiveness to stimulation, and containment of EEG features normal for postconceptional age (ie, delta brushes, temporal theta, or frontal sharp transients).

Tempromandibular Joint Syndrome - Dr Rhys Spoor DDS
The EMG's of the temporal and masseter muscles in 60 TMD patients and 30 controls were recorded during rhythmical open-close-clench movement before and after occlusal splint therapy.
The level of nocturnal masseter muscle activity in 25 MPD patients was monitored with surface EMG before, during and after therapy with occlusal splints.
Masseter muscle disharmony was not significantly greater than the control group.

eMedicine - Assessment of Neuromuscular Transmission : Article by Donald B Sanders, MD
In patients with MG who have normal RNS studies in the hand muscles, this enhancing technique has been shown to be slightly more sensitive than repetitive stimulation of the trapezius; however, it is only 60% as sensitive as single-fiber electromyography (EMG) of the hand muscle.
Abnormal neuromuscular transmission may be seen in EMG recordings as variability in the shape or amplitude of motor unit action potentials (MUAPs) (see Figure 5).
RNS studies demonstrate a decremental response, which is corrected by edrophonium, and SFEMG shows increased jitter.

Electromyographic activity of the ECU muscle changes with exposure to repetitive ulnar deviation
Electromyographic (EMG) activity of the extensor carpi ulnaris muscle (ECU) was recorded during voluntary isometric contractions (20% and 60% MVC) eight times throughout the work and control days at 0, 2, 4.25, 6.75, 8, 9, 10, and 11 hours.
Initial median frequency of the EMG signal showed no change between the control and workdays (p = 0.51); however, the decline of the median frequency with respect to time over the course of each isometric contraction was steeper during workdays compared to control days (p = 0.003).
With little known about the changes of muscle physiology due to repetitive work during an eight-hour workday, our objective was to quantify changes in muscle activity due to this type of work.

Scalene Block ?'s - BrainTalk Communities
Besides the scalene block, the most conclusive test I had was the C8 EMG of the ulnar nerve across the brachial plexus - the velocity was slowed to 49 on a test where my measurement if normal should have fallen between 60 and 70 or higher.
A not-so-positive scalene block in itself is not necessarily reason to think surgery will not be successful, but it is one piece of information that suggests perhaps surgery won't be totally successful in terms of pain or sx relief.
The theory is, if you put the scalene to sleep, it relaxes, which allows the first rib (to which it is attached) to drop fully in the chest cavity.

eMedicine - EEG Atlas: Normal Sleep EEG - Stages III and IV : Article by Selim R Benbadis, MD
SWS is characterized by relative body immobility, although body movement artifacts may be registered on electromyogram (EMG) toward the end of SWS.
Men aged 20-29 years spend about 21% of their total sleep in SWS, those aged 40-49 years spend about 8% in SWS, and those aged 60-69 spend about 2% in SWS (Williams et al, 1974).
Stage III is defined by delta activity that occupies 20-50% of the time, whereas in stage IV delta activity represents greater than 50% of the time.

Reduced Endplate Currents Underlie Motor Unit Dysfunction in Canine Motor Neuron Disease -- Rich et al. 88 (6): 3293 -- Journal of Neurophysiology
A: motor unit failure in a 144-day HCSMA homozygote was nearly complete as indicated by the presence of only the first and second electromyographic (EMG) responses to the 60 pulse, 150 Hz train (top signal, indicated by arrows) and negligible force production (lower signal).
Tetanic failure is quantified by the taking the difference between peak motor unit force and force present at the end of the motor neuron tetanic stimulus train, expressed as a fraction of the peak force (see Pinter et al.

Squat Resource: Information and Research on the Squat Exercise Jamie Carruthers
Therefore, the purposes of this study were 1) to determine muscle recruitment patterns of the gluteus maximus, hamstrings, quadriceps, and gastrocnemius during an unloaded squat exercise via EMG and 2) to describe the amount of hamstring-quadriceps co-contraction during an unloaded squat.
The dynamic squats were performed with masses ranging from 60 to 180 kg, which were placed on the shoulders.
Each subject was required to perform a half squat exercise with a barbell weight centered across the shoulders at two different cadences (1 and 2 s intervals) and three different loads (15, 22 and 30% of the one repetition maximum).

During the 31- to 60-degree phase, the decreased serratus anterior muscle activity was consistent with decreased upward rotation in the subjects with shoulder impingement.
In the analysis of serratus anterior muscle EMG activity, data from 2 of the 52 subjects (1 subject in each group) were of inadequate quality and were not used in subsequent analysis.
The serratus anterior muscle is believed to provide the primary muscular force to produce posterior tipping of the scapula and stabilize the scapular inferior angle against the thorax during humeral elevation.
