  EMH
EMH is the commonly used abbreviation of the Emergency Medical Holographic Program seen on the science fiction television series Star Trek: Voyager.
The EMH was created by Dr. Lewis Zimmerman, with assistance from Lt. Reginald Barclay, as a short-term emergency medical supplement for use by Starfleet.
With a total run-time of approximately 10 years, he is the oldest EMH known to be in existence.

Emergency Medical Holographic program - Memory Alpha - A Wikia wiki   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-09)
The EMH was programmed with 5 million possible treatments from the collective information of 2000 medical references and the experience of 47 individual medical officers.
After the EMH Mark II supplanted the "inferior" Mark I, the only remaining versions to fulfill their original programming were aboard the USS Voyager and the USS Equinox, which were both stranded in the Delta Quadrant and had to implement the emergency holograms for extended periods of time.
Furthermore, Voyager's EMH was able to leave sickbay or the holodeck and to roam freely with the help of a mobile emitter (originating from 29th century technology).

The failure of the Mark I EMH and their subsequent reassignment to serve aboard waste transfer barges upset Zimmermann deeply and rather than modify the existing EMH matrix, he started from scratch with a new matrix.
The EMH Mark V which is installed aboard the USS Leviathan-A is the latest version of the EMH project and is based directly around the EMH Mark I matrix from USS Voyager.
Finally, the EMH is not confined to the Leviathan-A's sickbay and holodecks as holoemitters are installed in key areas of the vessel, including the main and secondary Bridges, Engineering and all transporter rooms.

Efficient market hypothesis - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Information or news in the EMH is defined as anything that may affect stock prices that is unknowable in the present and thus appears randomly in the future.
EMH allows that when faced with new information, some investors may overreact and some may underreact.
Opponents of the EMH sometimes cite examples of market movements that seem inexplicable in terms of conventional theories of stock price determination, for example the stock market crash of October 1987 where most stock exchanges crashed at the same time.

 TimingCube - The Efficient Market Hypothesis - efficient market,emh,random walk,Maurice Kendall,Eugene Fama
EMH states that there is no link between past prices and future prices, and no relationship between the price of one stock and that of another stock.
An EMH paradox is that the profit-seekers and strategies that believe in and want to exploit market inefficiencies and temporary anomalies (which supposedly cannot be done) are in fact the stated forces that cause the markets to become efficient.
The primary argument against EMH from technical analysts is that many investors base their expectations on information about the past and study the same technical indicators.

 Efficient Markets Hypothesis
As MIT finance professor Andrew Lo writes in the introduction to two volumes that collect the key articles on the EMH, 'it is disarmingly simple to state, has far-reaching consequences for academic pursuits and business practice and yet it is surprisingly resilient to empirical proof or refutation'.
EMH is probably one of the more resilient empirical propositions around (albeit, see Robert Shiller's (1981) critique), yet it does not seem to have a clearly sound theoretical standing.
Therefore, in order for the EMH to be valid, there must be a sufficiently large number of traders who don't believe it.

 Bio: EMH
The EMH program causes holographic projectors not only to generate an image of a person, but also to generate a magnetic containment field, within which electormagnetic energy is trapped, thereby giving the EMH the ability to physically manipulate objects such as patients and medical instraments.
After the EMH Mark-1, which was assigned to the USS Voyager, returned to Earth in early 2377, many of the older EMH's were given certain program upgrades, including ones to give them longer service lives and returned to service.
The Voyager's EMH successfully lobbied on their behalf, and shortly thereafter, the former Enterprise EMH was returned to service aboard the USS Terra Nova.

What Is Market Efficiency?   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-09)
In fact, the EMH suggests that given the transaction costs involved in portfolio management, it would be more profitable for an investor to put his or her money into an index fund.
EMH followers say this is due to the laws of probability: at any given time in a market with a large number of investors, there will simply be who that outperform, those who underperform and those who maintain the average.
Accepting the EMH in its purest form may be difficult; however, there are three identified classifications of the EMH, which are aimed at reflecting the degree to which it can be applied to markets.

This richer interpretation of the EMH provides for variations from its stronger forms, which suggest that further data study, unless perhaps insider-based, is unlikely to be fruitful.
A central challenge to the EMH is the existence of stock market anomalies: reliable, widely known and inexplicable patterns in returns.
If the EMH in its classical form seems to be violated so often, maybe we economists ought to re-examine our theory instead of arguing that the world is crazy.' (see FINANCIAL ENGINEERING).

 Efficient Market Hypothesis - EMH
According to the EMH, this means that stocks always trade at their fair value on stock exchanges, and thus it is impossible for investors to either purchase undervalued stocks or sell stocks for inflated prices.
Thus, the crux of the EMH is that it should be impossible to outperform the overall market through expert stock selection or market timing, and that the only way an investor can possibly obtain higher returns is by purchasing riskier investments.
Although it is a cornerstone of modern financial theory, the EMH is highly controversial and often disputed.

Emergency Medical Hologram - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Four versions of the EMH series have been created to date (Only two were seen on screen, The Mark I from the Voyager series and the Mark II from the Voyager episode "Message in a Bottle"), the Mark I, II, III and IV.
Two of these were the EMH's of the USS Voyager and the USS Equinox, both of which were stranded in the Delta Quadrant by the Caretaker.
The Equinox EMH was reprogrammed by the crew so that its ethical subroutines were removed, allowing the crew to use it to extract materials from a living species to power their engines, but this EMH was deleted by the Voyager EMH after it tried to steal his mobile emitter and pose as him.
