EMI has gone digging in the rich mine of Argerich live recordings - the Mozart from 1978, the Beethoven from 1992 - unearthing at least one nugget of great worth, and giving us the priceless opportunity to compare these two works side by side.
Should EMI find more recordings of Argerich and Goldberg deep in the Concertgebouw archives, I hope they do not hesitate to bring them up to the light of day so we can gauge their weight and value for ourselves.

EMI Classics continues to reissue older material in its two-for-the-price-of-one "double fforte" series.
Many of the performances are first class, and it would be a mistake to pass these releases by because the recordings are not the most recent.
EMI invites buyers to access their website for texts and translations, but my last visit to www.emiclassics.com revealed no such thing.

This is Chopin as force of nature, both awesome and frightening -- not something in which to comfortably bask, but a place to test ourselves in the elements.
Bartók was not a composer I had associated with Argerich until her splendid performance of the Third Piano Concerto with Dutoit (EMI 56654 - full-price).
Her powerful, rustic but emphatically not percussive performance of the Sonata proves the Third Concerto was not a one-shot deal.

This live performance of the Shostakovich 8th is the next issue in the sporadic journey that Jansons is making through the Shostakovich Symphonies for EMI with a variety of orchestras.
Evidently, EMI was not prepared to fully fund this recording and so the Orchestra via its generous sponsors (the Emma Clyde Hodge Memorial Fund) put up the money to buy the necessary recording equipment for the recording.
There were more than one performances of the symphony which were part of the 2001 series of concerts in Pittsburgh and this disc is the result of the work being recorded live there.

EMI's US-re-release (8/00) of the Schumann Fantasie in C and Fantasiestücke which is my own favorite solo recording by Argerich.
An EMI representative in Toronto knows only that a recording of the two Liszt Concertos, possibly with one Ravel, are scheduled for release next February.
These include the EMI Concertgebouw and some others, including the first reviews I've seen of Rabinovich's 'Incantations' CD with Argerich on celeste and 2nd piano (which I haven't bought, not being a completist).
