Close up : British Popular Cinema (2)   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-06)
The spectacular qualities of the Bond films, the sex and the violence, provided the cinema audience with entertainment experiences not available on television and, indeed, one marked trend in the British cinema during the early television period is the film which can be sharply differentiated from television entertainment.
The EMI films which did have something of a British character were the lavishly budgeted and star-filled Agatha Christie adaptations Murder on the Orient Express (1974) and Death on the Nile (1978).
Films such as these indicate the existence of an indigenous cinema which reflects the regional and racial diversity of contemporary Britain whilst still possessing a degree of international marketability that the industry has frequently sought but so rarely secured except on an intermittent basis.

EMI Noise Reduction Tape using Magnetic Alloy Films   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-06)
The magnetic film was laminated with resin films using an adhesive to provide the necessary strength as well as to insulate films from each other and from the cable shielding while maintaining the desired film thickness.
The estimated efficiency of the magnetic film was about six times that of the ferrite core, assuming that noise reduction ratio induced by the magnetic tape wound around the 7-m-long cable was equal to that induced by the four ferrite cores based on the noise-emission measurements.
The strength required to allow winding of the magnetic film onto a cable was obtained by laminating the magnetic film with resin films leaving a small margin in each side.

EMI is a frontrunner in the race to buy the fast-growing but unprofitable PolyGram films because it is one of the few bidders prepared to buy both studio and library.
