Enso - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Enso is perhaps the most common subject of Japanese calligraphy.
Enso symbolizes enlightenment, strength, and the universe, and is an "expression of the moment".
The Enso is also a sacred symbol in the Zen Buddhist religion, and is often used by Zen masters as a form of signature in their religious artwork.

ENSO - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
ENSO is a set of interacting parts of a single global system of coupled ocean-atmosphere climate fluctuations that come about as a consequence of oceanic and atmospheric circulation.
ENSO is the most prominent known source of inter-annual variability in weather and climate around the world (~3 to 8 years),though not all areas are affected.
While ENSO is a global and natural part of the Earth's climate, whether its intensity or frequency may change as a result of global warming is an important concern.

 Understanding ENSO and Forecasting Drought
ENSO is perhaps a better term than El Niño for purposes of understanding global weather patterns, as it turns out that the shifts in sea surface temperatures (SSTs) off the west coast of South America are just one part of the coupled interactions of atmosphere, oceans, and land masses.
In Ropelewski and Halpert’s (1987) study on global precipitation patterns and ENSO events, they found that the consistency and magnitude of the precipitation relationships to ENSO events could serve as a practical utility for forecasting precipitation in certain regions (and seasons) once it was determined that an event was in progress.
ENSO advisories are used to a lesser extent in planning in North America and other extratropical countries, because the links between ENSO and weather patterns are less clear in these areas.

 Sumi circles on the Internet
Traditional Enso as the symbol of the Zen Dojo in Germany.
Most say that the enso is the all, the void and enlightenment itself.
Some have said that the enso represents a continuing action through time; when the painting is seen, it communicates at various levels of understanding depending on the viewer.

The Zen symbol "supreme" is an enso, a circle of enlightenment.
Enso range in shape from perfectly symmetrical to completely lopsided and in brushstroke (sometimes two brushstrokes) from thin and delicate to thick and massive.
The primary types of enso are: (1) Mirror enso: a simple circle, free of an accompanying inscription, leaving everything to the insight of the viewer.

ENSO   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-03)
The El Niño-Southern Oscillation (ENSO) contributes to interannual variability, and an important question is whether changes would occur in the intensity or frequency of ENSO events as a result of global warming [ Trenberth, 1990].
The ENSO phenomenon is thus a good example of the close interaction between atmospheric and oceanic dynamics [ Philander, 1990].
The past record of ENSO events reveals that the intensity and frequency of ENSO events has changed, with strong events 1880-1920, 1939-1942, 1954-1955, and 1982-1983 (among others) [ Trenberth, 1990].
