 Simple arithmetic ... - Jun. 26, 2004
Opening the ERs of three provinces seems eminently reasonable; after all, the original opposition demand was to examine all the ERs, which was scaled down to the ERs of 25 provinces, and finally to three.
Now multiply that by three, and we realize that to examine the ERs of three provinces will take at least 50 days or seven weeks (working seven days a week) to eight weeks (working six days a week).
Thus, you have Walden Bello saying that while his original opinion was that Gloria had won, his suspicions were aroused by the majority's refusal to open "just three" ERs (he meant, of course, the ERs of three provinces).

 eoPortal directory: ERS-2 (EUROPEAN REMOTE-SENSING SATELLITE-2)
The ERS-2 satellite is essentially a copy of ERS-1 except that it includes a number of enhancements; it is also carrying a new payload instrument to measure the chemical composition of the atmosphere, named GOME (Global Ozone Monitoring Experiment).
The measures implemented in Feb. 2000 to protect the satellite against further gyroscope failures have allowed the continuation of the ERS-2 operations, despite two major anomalies that took place in Jan. 2001.
The PRARE ground station tracking network consists of 29 PRARE transponders in total (globally distributed), which are owned by 10 different international geodetic research groups (plus GFZ) and operated locally by co-operating scientific institutions.

ESA Portal - GOME, ATSR and SAR keep watch over Etna
In fact, the Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) data provided by ERS-1 and ERS-2 have been a new source of information for vulcanologists who use a complex technique called SAR interferometry, to track vertical movements of the volcano with a centimetre precision.
It is now over 10 years since ESA’s ERS satellites first began providing environmental data.
Says Wolfgang Lengert, ESA ERS Mission Coordinator, “no-one can say for sure when this latest eruption will stop but the valuable data supplied by 10 years of SAR data from the ERS satellites is one of the tools that will be used to better understand this volcano.”

 ERS-1
Mission Objectives: The European Remote Sensing satellite, ERS-1, is part of a family of multi-disciplinary Earth Observation Satellites (ERS-1, ERS-2, EnivSat-1).
ERS-1 was the first European satellite to carry a radar altimeter.
In its first three years, ERS-1 has revolutionized many areas of the Earth sciences and their practical applications.

FindLaw - No. 02-299: Entergy Louisiana, Inc. v. Louisiana Public Service Comm'n - Amicus Invitation (Petition)
FERC determined that Entergy received no net gain from its inclusion of ERS generation units in Schedule MSS-1 calculations and that inclusion of the generation units benefitted ratepayers by removing a disincentive to participation in the ERS program.
A FERC proceeding during the mid-1990s addressed the question whether power-generation facilities in the ERS program could be deemed "available" for purposes of Schedule MSS-1, so that their capability would be considered when calculating an operating company's liability for deficiency payments, or eligibility to receive those payments.
FERC has concluded that the Entergy operating companies' inclusion of ERS generation facilities when calculating Schedule MSS-1 deficiency payments, under the terms of the amended System Agreement, is just and reasonable.

 CEOS`99 Abstract # 3
The radiometric stability of the ERS-1 SAR has been derived using the Kiruna ground station IRF measurements while for the ERS-2 SAR both the Kiruna and Neustrelitz ground stations have been used.
The quality assessment measurements using the Neustrelitz ground station are only slightly worse than those derived using the ESA transponders (the Kiruna ground station azimuth ambiguities are only suitable for IRF total power measurements).
For example, the stability using the Neustrelitz ground station gives an ERS-2 SAR stability of 0.35 dB while the average ESA transponder derived stability is 0.26 dB.

USE OF MULTITEMPORAL ERS-1 SAR DATA FOR RAINFOREST MONITORING

These investigations were carried out as part of ESA's ERS-1 pilot project PP2-D3, funded by the German Space Agency, and integrated within a cooperation with the National Brazilian Institute of Space Research (INPE).
This contribution is mainly based on a paper presented in November 1996 at the International Seminar "On the Use and Application of ERS SAR in Latin America", Viña del Mar, Chile (Scales et al.

Interferometry: scientific background, applications and reference documentation : After one year of ERS-1 and ERS-2 performing repeat acquisitions with a one day separation (the so-called tandem acquisition phase) there are around 100 000 repeated frames of data covering areas all over the world.
ERS-1 and 2 Interferometry Baseline Listing : It has been demonstrated that Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) Interferometry or INSAR is a significant potential application of ERS-1 SAR data, using the baseline listings, users can identify those repeat orbit combinations which satisfy the INSAR baseline criterion and are thus appropriate for various applications.
INSI : SAR Interferometry (INSAR) is a hot topic which is rapidly evolving thanks to spectacular results achieved in fields such as monitoring of earthquakes and volcanoes, land subsidence, glacier dynamics, classification of different land types and construction of Digital Elevation Models (DEM's) of the Earth's surface.

 CNN - Managing Generation X - April 20, 1999
Frank Caccamo, 59, corporate vice president and CIO of the Reynolds & Reynolds Co., an information management systems firm in Dayton, Ohio, now sees the ways in which Gen X-ers (who comprise between 30 percent to 40 percent of his IT staff) approach their worklives as a net plus for his business.
As an example of how Gen X-ers function differently within the corporate environment, Caccamo cites a Gen X-er who came to him and lobbied heavily for a shot at a job for which he was not being actively considered.
"These meetings are in direct response to requests from IT employees," says Caccamo, and "the whole employee base gets a lot out of it." Sometimes the employees perform skits at the meetings, and members of the leadership team will wear silly costumes.

 ERS-1
In comparison to contemporary satellite systems, the ERS-1 (and, now, the ERS-2 too) is unique in the simultaneous measurement of certain parameters, including those of sea state, sea surface winds, sea surface temperature, ocean circulation and sea and ice level, as well as all-weather imaging of ocean, ice and land.
The volume of data produced by ERS-1 is enormous: over one million bits per second just from the "low bit rate" sensors and 100 million bits per second from the Synthetic Aperture radar (SAR).
Initially of scientific interest, the (applicative) projects developed using ERS data have demonstrated that practical and even commercially viable applications are possible today.
