ESPOL (short for Executive Systems Programming Oriented Language) was a compiler for an ALGOL 60 superset that provided capabilities of that would later be known as Mohols, machine oriented high order languages, such as interrupting a processor on a multiprocessor system (the Burroughs B5000 was a dual-processor system).
The ESPOL single pass compiler could compile over 250 lines per second and was used to write the MCP (Master Control Program) on the Burroughs 6700.

 WPI News & Events - WPI and Ecuadoran University Sign Agreement to Send Students to WPI
The Escuela Superior Politecnica del Litoral (ESPOL) Instituto de Ciencias, Humanisticas y Economics (ICHE) signed an articulation agreement with WPI to send up to 15 students per year to complete their last two years of study at WPI.
Similar agreements exist between ESPOL and the University of Notre Dame and the London School of Economics, says McRae C. Banks II, professor and Management Department head at WPI.
Four ESPOL students were educated under that initial program.

 Success Stories-Digital Divide - Cisco Systems
More recently, Hernan Cordova, one of Patricia's professors at ESPOL, encouraged her to enroll in the Networking Academy after it was established.
His encouragement inspired her to enroll and was the stimulus for all the learning and enjoyment that she has experienced in the program.

Elliott ALGOL (also known simply as Extended ALGOL) was the Burroughs-specific extension of the ALGOL 60 programming language designed system and application programming in its B5000 mainframes.
Elliott ALGOL was used to write the ESPOL compiler on the Burroughs B5500, Burroughs B6500, and Burroughs B6700 computers.
Burroughs Extended ALGOL and Elliott ALGOL formed the basis (in a simplified form) of a language used at NetComm (Australia) limited for their Apple II programming language SDL, developed by Owen Reddecliffe.

These Internet-based applications and corresponding pedagogical methodologies that form the foundation of the project are based on the experience and materials developed by CIESE and presented in collaboration with faculty from Miami Dade Community College.
In each of the participating countries, strategic partnerships were established with the universities and institutions; and in Ecuador, ESPOL coordinated and supported the implementation of the project on a national level.

The "Burroughs large systems" machines starting with the B5000 in 1961 were stack machines designed to be programmed in an extended Algol 60.
Their operating systems, called MCP (Master Control Program - the name later borrowed by the screenwriters for Tron), were programmed in ESPOL (Executive Systems Programming Oriented Language, a minor extension of Algol) almost a decade before Unix, and the command interface developed into a compiled structured language with procedures called WFL (Work Flow Language).
Burroughs produced the B2000 or "medium systems" computers aimed primarily at the business world.

The Master Control Program (MCP) was the operating system of the B5000 and its successors (the Bnm00 series, A Series of the 1980s, to today's Unisys ClearPath machines).
Originally written in ESPOL (Executive Systems Programming Language), which itself was an extension of Burroughs Extended ALGOL, it was converted to NEWP, which was basically a better structured and more secure form of ESPOL in the 1970s.
The MCP's role is to manage the resources of a system, providing controlled access to those resources (security) and to provide common services for programs running on that system.

Marcelo Espinosa is on the faculty as a lecturer, a research scientist, and extension agent in agriculture.
Specifically Marcelo would like technical advise on land restoration from the affects of El Nino where soil was deposited as deep as 45 cm on some plantations and fertility is a problem.

This semester, exchange students from Purpan Agricultural College, France, transfer students from ESPOL, Ecuador, and short-term scholars from Zamorano University, Honduras, are among those studying and conducting research on campus.
While these programs have been effect now for several years, the cumulative effect of their presence is evident in international students’ and scholars’ participation in classes, research projects and campus organizations.
