 ESR: The Test
ESR is said to be nonspecific because increases do not tell the doctor exactly where the inflammation is in your body or what is causing it, and also because it can be affected by other conditions besides inflammation.
ESR and C-reactive protein (CRP) are both markers of inflammation.
In a pediatric setting, the ESR test is used for the diagnosis and monitoring of children with rheumatoid arthritis or Kawasaki’s Disease.

Blood Tests to Detect Inflammation - Patient UK
The CRP and ESR blood tests are commonly used to detect this increase in protein, and so are 'markers' of inflammation.
The ESR measures the rate at which the red blood cells separate from the plasma and fall to the bottom of a test tube.
A raised ESR or CRP may indicate that some inflammatory condition is likely to be the cause.

ESR: The Test   (Site not responding. Last check: )
The ESR is an easy, inexpensive, non-specific test that has been used for many years to help diagnose conditions associated with acute and chronic (that is, short or long duration) inflammation, including infections, cancers, and autoimmune diseases.
ESR is said to be non-specific because increases do not tell the doctor exactly where the inflammation is in your body or what is causing it, and also because it can be affected by other conditions besides inflammation.
Since the ESR is a non-specific marker of inflammation and is affected by other factors, the results must be used along with the doctor’s other clinical findings, the patient’s health history, and results from other appropriate laboratory tests.

ESR (erythrocyte sedimentation rate) is a nonspecific screening test for various diseases.
The erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) can be used to monitor inflammatory or malignant disease.
Although it is a screening test (cannot be used to diagnose a specific disorder), it is useful in detecting and monitoring tuberculosis, tissue necrosis (death), rheumatologic disorders, or an otherwise unsuspected disease in which symptoms are vague or physical findings are minimal.

 ESR
For aluminum electrolytics, ESR drops as working voltage increases, and I suspect that some designers of video equipment use aluminum capacitors with high working voltages to get lower impedance in the video frequency range.
ESR is also dependent on capacitor shape; tall and thin electrolytics tend to have lower ESRs than short, squat ones.
ESR can also be expected to vary considerably from part to part and from lot to lot, especially for parts whose ESR is not specified by the manufacturer.

ESR's digital servo drives are prepared for this use too.
After setting all required parameters once, a signal at one of the digital inputs or via the fieldbus interface is sufficient to start the spindle positioning or to resume the rotary motion again.
This function, called "Flying shear" or "Flying saw", is already integrated in the digital servo drives by ESR (partly as an option) and requires only a small effort during parameterization (for cutting length, return velocity etc.).

Electron Spin Resonance   (Site not responding. Last check: )
When the molecules of a solid exhibit paramagnetism as a result of unpaired electron spins, transitions can be induced between spin states by applying a magnetic field and then supplying electromagnetic energy, usually in the microwave range of frequencies.
Particularly fruitful has been the study of the ESR spectra of radicals produced as radiation damage from ionizing radiation.
If you were always dealing with systems with a single spin like this example, then ESR would always consist of just one line, and would have little value as an investigative tool, but several factors influence the effective value of g in different settings.

 ESR meter tips
From my experience if an electrolytic has an ESR more than double the table value for its capacitance and voltage rating, it's wise to check it against a new one and/or replace it to remove the chance of it causing problems in the future.
ESR means how well a capacitor passes AC while blocking > the DC, and the lower the ESR the better.
FWIW, I've had good luck using my ESR meter to debug hum problems in audio circuitry, where the difference between ground and a few tenths of an ohm to ground can mean an induced voltage.

 ESR Testing
All capacitors have a certain amount of resistance to the passage of AC current, this resistance is typically modeled as a resistor in series with a "perfect" capacitor.
The increase in ESR increases both voltage drops within the capacitor and the heat produced in the caps due to resistive heating.
The ESR and capacitance of the test part are put in parallel with R2.

Demand for low ESR (ESR = Equivalent Series Resistance) surface mount (SMT) capacitors is rapidly growing due to industry wide trend towards distributed power management driven by lower voltage circuit design (powering lower voltage silicon devices).
Compounding the need for low ESR further, is the reduced circuit (silicon) tolerance to voltage variation (noise and line droops).
Multiple capacitors (capacitor bank) using electrolytic and MLCC types are often used, to supply the energy needed during rapid changes in load current demand, as seen by the power management circuit.
