The EUFOR or European Union Force is an international military force under the supervision of the European Council.
The EUFOR is led by the Political and Security Committee, and the civilian implementation of the agreement lies in the hands of the Office of High Representative.
The EUFOR will assume all the missions of the SFOR, but the chase for war criminals, notably Radovan Karadžić, former leader of Republika Srpska, and Ratko Mladić, their former military leader, will be a mission for both the EU and NATO.

The foundations for arms control negotiations in BiH were set out in 1995 in Article IV, Annex 1B of the Dayton Peace Accords (officially known as the General Framework Agreement for Peace in Bosnia and Herzegovina), with the aim of reducing the risk of future regional conflict.
European Union Police Mission and EUFOR organized a briefing for BiH law enforcement, prosecution and taxation officials on 26 May 2006 in which they informed them about the new role of EU Missions.
EUFOR and EUPM remain committed to work closely together and provide effective support to the local authorities of BiH.

On 16 December 2004 the Swiss Parliament confirmed subsequently the decision of the Federal Council, to authorize the Ministry of Defence to deploy members of the Swiss armed forces — armed for self-defence — to the multinational European Union Force (EUFOR) for the mission ALTHEA in Bosnia-Herzegovina.
EUFOR replaced the NATO-led SFOR (Stabilization Force) which since the end of 1996 had considerably contributed to the stabilization in Bosnia-Herzegovina.
They are the „early-warning system“ of EUFOR and work closely together with both the local population and local authorities as well as with the international organizations active in the same area.
