EV1 wait anxiously for ABC news crew to publicize the danger, but it was in vain.
Those EV1 drivers who lost their "non-upgraded" EV1 were put at the top of the list for getting a 1999 Nickel Metal Hydride ("NiMH", 160 mile range) model, when and if they were ever released.
GM had dismantled the EV1 supplier and manufacturing plant in 1998, it was reported by GM insiders; the only question was who would be allowed to lease the already-built EV1.

Ev1 is our name for all boards that identify themselves in the VL as "ev1." These boards all use the underlying design known as "Galileo 1.0" or "Express Video." This document explains exactly which boards this is, and their differences.
This signal is connected directly to an ev1 board via an "indycam connector" or a "ribbon cable connector." The ev1 board then makes the signal availble at all of its outputs.

One of the guys I worked with transferred to the EV1 program after what was by then a division of Raytheon lost the C-130 ATS contract.
I remember thinking at the time that it came out that the EV1 "sucked" -- it cost $40k but had the amenities of a $15k car, it had a range of 75-100 or so miles, and it couldn't be recharged any faster than overnight.
The EV1 was a great car; on the original DELCO batteries, the 1997 lead-acid battery-powered EV1 only had a range of 60-70 miles, but that's not a big problem.
