Topic: EWTN

In the News (Tue 22 Dec 09)

Eternal Word Television Network - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
EWTN began in 1981 and transmits 24 hour programming to 118 million homes in 127 countries and 16 territories on cable, satellite, and low-power TV.
After Mother was able to purchase satellite space, EWTN signed on in August of 1981 with 4 hours a day of programming, including talk shows, Mother Angelica Live (aired two nights a week), Sunday Mass once a week, and re-runs of older Catholic programs such as Life Is Worth Living with Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen.
EWTN has many programs discussing Protestant beliefs from their perspective, such as The Journey Home in which converts to Catholicism, mostly from other Christian denominations, state their reasons for converting.

 EWTN
EWTN has become the television network of New Church, feeding its mass audience programming that combines solid Catholic content with the poison of Modernist innovation: the new liturgy, the new theology, and the new soul of New Church, whose disastrous arrival Pius XII was able to foresee only in the light of Fatima.
The EWTN “Magisterium” presumes to instruct Catholics on how the Faith is to be understood and practiced since the Second Vatican Council, and it routinely anathematizes traditionalists for their refusal to adhere to Post-Conciliar Correctness.
EWTN is a veritable network of apostasy that is using the medium of television to give Modernism a power over Catholics that it has never had before.

Kathryn Jean Lopez on EWTN/Mother Angelica on National Review Online
On August 15, EWTN celebrates its 20th birthday — two decades of skyrocketing growth since Mother Angelica started it in 1981 with just $200 as a single television station operating out of the garage of her previous monastery in Irondale, Alabama, a Birmingham suburb some 50 miles from Hanceville.
EWTN calls itself the "global Catholic network," but it doesn't really keep track of who is actually watching its programs among the more than 60 million households it reaches.
Today, EWTN has a small accounting department to make sure the staff gets its paychecks (salaries are sometimes sacrifices for new employees but are generally about the industry standard), pay bills, and count donations, but the chief financing strategy is, as with all things at EWTN, prayer.

 EWTN: A Network Gone Wrong
Mother’s role at EWTN is now reduced to leading the Rosary in short pre-recorded segments and the broadcast of some of her old television shows—censored for “theological correctness” by EWTN’s current management, which, as we shall see, has become decidedly Modernist in its orientation.
While EWTN says the strokes have rendered Mother Angelica unable to appear on television, in truth she had already been driven from her position of control over the network she founded by an episcopal power play orchestrated with the assistance of a Vatican congregation.
EWTN complied with these “norms,” even though they were as preposterous and illegal as Foley’s earlier decree, for Foley had no authority to ban the Church’s immemorial practice, on television or otherwise.

 New book slams EWTN
EWTN survives on its own, but what it does in proliferating papal teachings, the sublime beauty of the catechism, the splendor of Eucharistic Benediction, the Holy Rosary, Divine Mercy Chaplet, daily Mass, and a plethora of shows about Catholicism, is second to none.
The prince of darkness is the author of all lies and is the son of perdition.
I sincerely hope that EWTN becomes what it could be: the vanguard of a movement to restore the Church, rather than a 'conservative' adaptation to the post-conciliar revolution.

EWTN is not a person, it is a group of people, and this group of people has, on numerous occasions, claimed 'theology' to be their guide when, in fact, it is simply their personal preference.
