Eagle County was created by the Colorado legislature on Feburary 11, 1883 from portions of Summit County.
The eastern border of the county is the continental divide.
In the county the population is spread out with 23.50% under the age of 18, 11.40% from 18 to 24, 42.10% from 25 to 44, 20.00% from 45 to 64, and 3.00% who are 65 years of age or older.

EAGLE, Colorado - Undercover detectives watched NBA star Kobe Bryant for about seven hours before police confronted him on rape allegations and took him to hospital for forensic tests, a court heard Tuesday.
The court heard that Bryant then surprised the two Eagle County, Colorado, detectives, who were waiting outside the hotel where he was recovering from knee surgery, by approaching them before they could seek him out.
The conversation was then captured by one of the officers, Dan Loya, with a mini-tape recorder hidden in his pocket, in a move that became the focus of Tuesday's battle between prosecution and defense lawyers.

The Eagle Lake project was first owned by William Dunovant, then by Rineyard-Walker and Company, and later by Eagle Lake Rice Irrigation Company, which became Lakeside Irrigation Company.
Eagle Lake has a capacity of 9,600 acre-feet and a surface area of 1,200 acres at an elevation of 170 feet above mean sea level.
They were later replaced by modern electric pumps that lift water from the Colorado River to a canal system that supplies water to the lake or directly to the land to be irrigated.

Eagle County and other counties like it attract young, transient workers who like to party and tend to engage in activities that increase their risk of contracting HIV, said Carolyn Hamilton, HIV/early intervention coordinator for the Colorado West Mental Health agency.
According to the Colorado Department of Health and Environment, there were 34 people in Eagle County with AIDS and 24 with HIV as of March.
