Eagle County was created by the Colorado legislature on Feburary 11, 1883 from portions of Summit County.
The eastern border of the county is the continental divide.
In the county the population is spread out with 23.50% under the age of 18, 11.40% from 18 to 24, 42.10% from 25 to 44, 20.00% from 45 to 64, and 3.00% who are 65 years of age or older.

Eagle County commissioners agreed to a $100,000 settlement and a "statement of accountability" for the death of Jamie Close, which occurred at the park on June 23, 2001.
He noted that none of the current Eagle County commissioners had been on the board approving the recreational use of the abandoned building, once used as a storage building for the U.S. Forest Service, that had been turned into the makeshift skatepark.
Eagle County investigators reported that the building was littered with loose boards, beer bottles, old mattresses and debris on the day of the accident, Bennett said.

Eagle Pass, the county seat of Maverick County, is located on the Mexican border at the intersection of U.S. highways 277 and 57, Farm Road 1021, and the Southern Pacific Railroad in the far western part of the county.
Piedras Negras, established in 1850 across from Eagle Pass in Mexico, became a haven for fugitive slaves, and both banks of the river were infested with outlaws.
Eagle Pass grew slowly in the early decades of the twentieth century, reaching 2,729 inhabitants in 1900 and 5,765 in 1920.

Deadly Colorado motor vehicle accidents have prompted lawmakers in Eagle County to make their seat belt laws the toughest in the state, an article from the Denver Post said yesterday.
The Eagle County commissioners voted unanimously on Wednesday to put a law into effect imposing a $25 fine on drivers or passengers who fail to wear seatbelts on county roads.
Eagle County is believed to be the first government in the state to make not wearing a seat belt a "primary offense," meaning that officers can pull over drivers solely for that infraction.
