While stationed at Port Curtis Captain O'Connell, in the face of much discouragement and at considerable cost from his private means, carried on the settlement of that district from the commencement until his office was abolished in 1859.
Fortunate indeed, is the City of Brisbane that the pleasantly situated Botanical Gardens are still in their present spaciousness and available for visits by those who enjoy the beauties of plant and flower life as well as the peaceful quietude which raises the heart and refreshes the spirit.

The line is a spur from QR's existing northern main line near Toombul, approximately 8.4km north of Brisbane.
A third station at Export Park is planned for the future, as is a station to serve proposed new hotels near the airport.

The railway junction was originally called Eagle Farm Junction, but it became shortened to Eagle Junction.
When the N.S.W. Governor advised the establishment of an agricultural station away from the Brisbane settlement, Captain Logan and Colonial Botanist Fraser, selected a tract of land on the north side of the Brisbane River backed by ‘a fine creek’ (Serpentine Creek).
Their slab house saw many visitors as it was on the main northern track from Brisbane and the Cashes had a reputation for hospitality.
