The decision regarding whether a Scout has met the required standards to qualify for rank advancement begins with the troop and, for the Eagle Scout rank, is approved by the district, local council, and finally, the National Council.
The Distinguished Eagle Scout Award was established in 1969 to acknowledge Eagle Scouts who have distinguished themselves in business, professions, and service to their country.

Boy Scouts of America was not a party to the case but filed a friend of the court brief supporting the Sea Scouts.

Though I began with Troop 90 in the early 90s when I moved from Cub Scouts to Boy Scouts, the troop floundered as participation diminished, and eventually there was no choice but to let the troop go.
In order to finish, I joined up with Troop 175 in Mentor-on-the-Lake, Ohio, where I finished my time as a Boy Scout, and eventually was officially recognized as an Eagle Scout at a ceremony in early May, 1999.
Unfortunately, with moving around for school and the transitory nature of college life, I was unable to continue involvement with Troop 175, and at present am only affiliated with the BSA by being a card-carrying Eagle Scout.
