Eaglehawk Neck itself is a tie bar made of sand carried by currents and waves from the floor bed of Pirate’s Bay to the east and Norfolk Bay to the west.
It joins the Tasman Peninsula where Port Arthur is located to Forestier Peninsula in a narrow strip of land which is less than 100 m wide.

Eaglehawk Neck (pop ~200) is a narrow isthmus at the top of the Tasman Peninsula.
In convict times, it was manned by guards who ran a chain from one side of the neck to the other, and tethered savage dogs to it to stop prisoners escaping.
Walks from Eaglehawk Neck include Clyde Island (1½ hours return) at low tide, along the cliffs to Waterfall Bay (2 hours return) or a more challenging 7 hour hike to Fortescue Bay.

Spring Bay to the north is different in that it sits on the east coast of Tasmania with a sea access facing east toward the Tasman Sea.
An El Niño has the effect of temporarily depressing mean sea levels throughout the southwest Pacific, including Tasmania, such as shows up clearly on this sea level record from Devonport on the north coast of Tasmania, where sea level appears to drop about 10 cm for the duration of the event.
That we came to the same answer for Spring Bay is interesting, perhaps coincidental, but would not necessarily agree for other stations.

The water in the bay was flat because the bay was filled with kelp forests that reach the surface and acted like breakwaters.
I paddled around the outside of the bay and I eventually found a narrow (2m) passage through the rock that looked like it was man made.
After I had rounded LRP I was tossing up between aiming at the first bay to the south, which was Nye Bay or paddling along the coast directly east from LRP to find somewhere.

I soon came to Canoe Bay, where there was an old wreck with many gulls perched on it.
Continuing along the cliff edge, the track had great views of the cliffs as well as south to the distant Cape Hauy, where the candlestick could clearly be seen.
