A charter of 784 survives, in which Ealhmund granted land to the Abbot of Reculver.
Significantly, this charter makes no mention of Offa of Mercia, who had ruled Kent directly or indirectly for most of the 760s and 770s; we may consider this as evidence that Ealhmund was acting independent of Offa's authority, perhaps as a consequence of a possible Kentish victory at the Battle of Otford in 776.
If this was the case, however, it did not last: Offa invaded Kent again around the year 785 and Ealhmund was probably killed in battle.
By 694, however, Wihtred seems to be sole king, when, according to the 'Anglo-Saxon Chronicle', "the people of Kent came to terms with Ine [of Wessex]", and agreed to pay compensation for the death, in 687, of his predecessor's brother, Mul.
A margin note in Manuscript F (the 'Canterbury Manuscript') of the 'Chronicle' states that Ealhmund was the father of Ecgberht of Wessex.
Ealhmund appears in Wessex genealogies as a descendant of Ingild, brother of Ine.
The father of Egbert was called Ealhmund, and we find an Ealhmund, king in Kent, mentioned in a charter dated 784, who is identified with Egbert's father in a late addition to the Chronicle under the date 784.
It is possible, however, that the Chronicle in 825 refers to some claim through Ine of Wessex from whose brother Ingeld Egbert was descended.
After this victory Kent, Surrey, Sussex and Essex submitted to Wessex; while the East Anglians, who slew Beornwulf shortly afterwards, acknowledged Ecgbert as overlord.
Ecgberht II, was King of Kent jointly with Heaberht.
Ecgberht II is known from his coins and charters, ranging from 765 to 779 [1] [2] [3] [4], two of which were witnessed or confirmed by Heaberht.
According to the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle, a battle was fought at Otford in 776, and although the outcome was not recorded, the fact that Kent seems to have remained independent for several years afterward suggests that Ecgberht was victorious.

The Anglo-Saxon Chronicle records that "the Mercians and the inhabitants of Kent fought at Otford" in 776.
The outcome was not recorded; it was traditionally interpreted as a Mercian victory, but Stenton noted that there is no evidence that Offa exercised any authority over Kent during the years that immediately followed the battle, and a charter from 784 mentions only a Kentish king named Ealhmund.
The establishment of a new coinage is important evidence for Offa's administrative control over the economy, though there are many difficulties with the chronology and structure of the coinage: a sparse, early coinage was struck at mints in Canterbury, London and somewhere in East Anglia.
Eoppa, born about 706, was the father of Eaba. He was a West Saxon Noble. Some question whether Eoppa was a real person, saying he may have been an invention of some ancient genealogist, used to show the relationships of Kings of Wessex.

He is conjectured to have married a daughter of Ethelbert II, King of Kent.
If correct, this would open up a bona fide Merovingian descent via the kings of Kent.
