Bad Brains - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Before the band recorded, McCray was replaced by singer H.R., brother of drummer Earl Hudson.
Aside from the problems with H.R., who sometimes refused to perform at scheduled concerts, he and his brother, drummer Earl Hudson, also wanted to devote the band strictly to reggae, while Dr. Know and Daryl Jennifer were increasingly interested in heavy metal music.
According to the band's management, the CBGB's performances were a one-time event and the original lineup is said to be still together putting the finishing touches on their new album.

Soul Brains drummer Earl Hudson is not one to dwell on his band's lesser moments, such as the last time the Soul Brains (then known as the Bad Brains) were scheduled to play the Triangle (August 1989).
Hudson, his brother (vocalist H.R.), bassist Darryl Jennifer and guitarist Gary "Dr. Know" Miller--the quartet that would go on to become one of the most important and influential of the '80s punk/hardcore bands--actually began as a jazz fusion outfit called Mind Power back in 1976.
Nevertheless, the album was hailed as the crowning achievement of their career, staying lodged in the upper reaches of college-radio playlists as well as catching the ears of hard rock fans turned on by Hudson and Jennifer's heavy grooves and Miller's guitar wizardry.

Visionary frontman H.R. (Paul Hudson) has the lungs of a lion, able to morph from sweetly soulful crooner to fiery banshee wailer; guitar wizard Dr. Know erupts with serpentine squealing leads and charging, crunching chords; the churning heartbeat rhythms are forged by limber bassist Darryl Jenifer and stoic drummer (and H.R.'s brother) Earl Hudson.
Playing punk, thrashy rock and reggae with equal command and conviction (Earl Hudson's deft drumming is crucial to the band's gear-shifting ability), the Bad Brains fill the impressive Live with familiar repertoire items documented at a handful of dates on an '87 tour.
With Earl on drums, four guitarists, backing vocalists and a two-man horn section, H.R. sings nothing but old-style reggae originals with little stylistic variation on Charge, a handsome but dull album that praises the lord so often it might as well be a church service.

T-Shirt Fiend: Bad Brains hardcore punk tshirt
Bad Brains were plagued by internal tensions nearly from their beginning: aside from the problems with H.R., who sometimes even refused to perform at scheduled concerts, he and his brother, drummer Earl Hudson, wanted to devote the band to reggae, while Dr. Know and Jennifer were increasingly interested in heavy metal music.
Charges of homophobia dogged the band (particularly over the track Don't Blow Bubbles on Quickness, and a run-in with the Texas hardcore bands MDC and Big Boys, both of which included openly gay members), especially H.R., whose unreliability also cost the band a number of perfoming opportunities, such as being the opening act for U2.
With the original band back together for the first time in five years, an old fan from the band's punk days, Madonna, signed the Bad Brains to her Maverick Records for the 1995 release God of Love.
