	Hugh O´NEILL (E. Tyrone)
		Third Baron Dungannon and Second Earl of Tyrone, second son of Matthew, reputed illegitimate son of Conn, 1st Earl of Tyrone.
		He served with the English during the Earl of Desmond Rebellion in 1580, and assisted Sir John Perrot against the Scots of Ulster in 1584.
		In 1597, with the arrival of a new Lord Deputy, Lord Thomas Borough, hostilities broke out again, culminating in the Battle of the Yellow Ford, near Armagh, in Aug 1598, in which the English suffered a heavy defeat and their commander, Marshal Bagenal, was killed.

	O Neill the most illustrious among the surnames of Ireland
		From the fifth to the eleventh century, and from the twelfth century to the death of Red Hugh O Neill in 1608, this dominant family were monarchs of all Ireland, kings of Ulster, earls and princes of Tyrone, statesmen and soldiers.

	Hugh O'Neill Earl of Tyrone
		In the parliament of 1585 (413), which he attended as baron of Dungannon, he was made earl of Tyrone in succession to his (reputed) grandfather Conn Bacach; and in 1587 the queen granted him the inheritance; but he was to give up 240 acres on the Blackwater as a site for a fort.
		Not long after this the earl and Mabel Bagenal, sister of Sir Henry Bagenal marshal of Ireland, fell in love with each other and wished to be married.
		But his movements were now considered suspicious; he was continually drilling men; and he brought home vast quantities of lead to roof his new house at Dungannon, which it was reported was not intended for roofs but for bullets.
