The worst thing about having to change at Earlestown, other than the simple fact that it's Earlestown for crying out loud, is that despite the fact that Earlestown is a junction station, neighbouring station Newton-le-Willows is considered more important.
Credit where it is due, the Warrington Guderian [slogan: "driving a tank through the flowerbeds of fact"] reported on the timetable changes on the Liverpool- Earlestown - Warrington line last month, introduced in association with the new West Coast timetable.
Only a fifteen minute walk to the station, direct train to Bank Quay, past the NWDA offices et voila - out on't Causeway for a short walk/bus ride up to Wilderspool Park.

Rail police have highlighted criminal activity at the stations, including incoming trains being bricked, emergency indicators vandalised and objects deliberately left on the tracks.
But a Network Rail spokesperson said criminal occurrences at the two stations were falling in comparison with figures for 2001-2002.

 PHOTO
On Earlestown Station, photographing eastbound trains to Manchester is only possible during the early part of the day but there is scope on a bright day (or early summer evenings) to record trains approaching Earlestown West Junction to gain access to the WCML.
Outside Earlestown Station is Junction Lane bridge were there is scope to photograph in both directions especially westbound trains with the station buildings making a very interesting backdrop.
Just before Earlestown, is the famous Sankey Viaduct which is a very open location on both sides, therefore it is entirely up to you how you want to interpret this location but you will not see the train bogies regardless of the angle and there is no height to overlook the viaduct.

Harry Jack — 19-Oct-2004 7.51 PM I can’t pinpoint this actual footbridge but suppose it was fairly near the south end of Earlestown station.
So the train really is “approaching Earlestown” – but from more than two and a half miles away.
This bridge would be just over two miles north of Warrington Bank Quay station, between Dallam and Winwick Quay.

School caps were far too posh but despite cat calls we wore them with pride and put up with being known as "Earlestown Dirty Shirts" because of the cap's monogram EDS (Earlestown District School).
Tom went full circle at the District school (primary) years later by being Chair of governors for some years.Tom did another full circle starting his working life in December 1944 as a junior clerk in Earlestown Town Hall and at the time of dismantling he UDC's had become elected leader of the Council.
Both lads became Maths/PE teachers in secondary schools and both became Councillors but in different parties in different parts of the country.
