 Samurai Shodown Review
Samurai Shodown is, at one level, a Street Fighter 2 clone with a medieval Japanese setting, and, at another level, an elegant ballet of fist, feet, and swords.
Earthquake, a 10-foot tall ninja wannabe with a weight problem, is a virtual punching bag, but Gen-an, a troll-like being with "Freddy Krueger" claws, has such an erratic fighting style that it can be difficult to deal with.
Samurai Shodown is more of an alternate universe, what-if scenario than an accurate portrayal of history (since the body of the real-life Amakusa was never found, what if he was just asleep all this time and awoke one day for revenge?).

Samurai Shodown was among the first fighting games that modified the classical Street Fighter II formula and chose a different fighting system and many gameplay improvements (and graphical effects as well, such as the then revolutionary zoom effect).
Its successor Samurai Shodown II was also enthusiastically received by critics and fans alike, but probably mostly by graphics that surpassed everything seen before in this genre since the gameplay was not changed much.

The standing A of Haohmaru and Earthquake, and the standing B of Hanzo, Galford, and Nakoruru are the only downstroke's I've found that qualify.
With the exceptions of Galford, Hanzo, Nakoruru, and Earthquake, all of the character's B thrusts meet the second qualification (for certain one's like Tam-Tam and Jubei, you may have to do a crouch thrust).
However, if you get into a struggle with Earthquake when you don't have a weapon, you will execute a low CD kick on him since he can't be thrown.

 DOOM ON YOU
Besides the crummy translating job (which by the way adds humor to the game as you laugh heartily at sayings like "Ive made it mincemeat" and "Kill You!") Samurai Shodown 2 is one of the best fighting games ive ever played.
If you happen to choose the character EarthQuake (who wields the blade-on-chain), all you have to do is crouch and use your super power, which consists of: throwing your weapon about half the length of the battle field and hurting the other player to about half health.
Over all I thought Samurai Shodown 2 is a new twist on a classic genre, making it so that combos are not the only way to win the game (excluding, of course, Earthquake).
