Easington is a local government district and in eastern County Durham, England.
It contains the settlements of Easington, Seaham, Peterlee and Castle Eden.
The district was formed on April 1, 1974 by the merger of Seaham urban district with most of Easington Rural District.

Easington suffered great destruction by invaders from Scandinavia, then under Norman rule the murder of Robert Comyn, a Norman, brought about the virtual destruction of the area.
Over the years Easington Village became known as Easington Colliery because of the continued growth of the colliery, the community and buildings continued to grow with it.
The first buildings in Easington Colliery were the sinkers huts built on the site of Ashton and Ascot Street, sinkers were the men who went down the mine shafts in a metal bucket.

Easington Colliery is situated on the coast in the County of Durham, between the ports of Seaham Harbour and West Hartlepool, nine miles north-west of the latter.
They have stopped the spread of a number of explosions and though many good lives were lost at Easington, if the roads had not been stone dusted the explosion might have acquired such violence that it would have spread far beyond its actual confines and caused one of the greatest disasters in mining history.
John Young Wallace, a fully trained rescue man of 26 and an overman at Easington, was acting as the captain of a rescue team when he met his death.

The manor of Easington was, according to Domesday Book, within the soke of the manor of Loftus, and had then one villein with one plough, a wood, and a cattle pasture one mile long and half-a-mile broad.
From the representatives of this family the manor and estate (5,000 acres) passed by purchase to Charles Mark Palmer, Esq., recently created a baronet, and M.P. for Jarrow, the present owner, by whom the hall (Grinkle Park) was rebuilt in 1883, in a mixed style of architecture (English and Norman).
The village of Easington is situated about 1½ miles E. of Loftus, and near the coast line of railway to Whitby.

Easington has been an important landing point for gas ever since the start of North Sea production in the 1960s.
On Saturday October 9th, more than 200 Easington residents celebrated in style as the symbolic first sod was cut to mark the start of the Langeled Project, and the momentous occasion of the physical and cultural joining of two communities - Easington, East Yorkshire and the municipality of Aukra in Norway.

The award-winning Street Wardens Scheme has been running in Easington Colliery, Horden and in the west of the district for the past three years.
