Easington district's total financial commitment for adaptations and medical aids, including access ramps, showers and heating, is almost £1 million for the current year, and there is an estimated backlog of more than £500,000 of work for local authority properties alone.
Easington primary care group was chosen as one of the twenty PCGs in England to take part in the first wave of the national primary care collaborative, which is now a part of the NHS Modernisation Agency.
Easington primary care group is addressing the problem on two levels; first, by providing services for those people who are affected by disease and, secondly, by providing information and support for people at risk of serious disease to enable them to make informed choices about their lives.

 Weekly bin collections to remain in Easington
District of Easington Council has today confirmed that it will be remaining with weekly refuse collections for the foreseeable future.
Together with its partners District of Easington Council will also be piloting a Parc-it scheme in parts of the district which allow residents to put plastics and cardboard in a specially designed bag together with the weekly refuse.
Oliver Sherratt, District of Easington Council’s Director of Community Services, said: “Residents have responded very well to educational and awareness programmes, which have resulted in a 43 per cent increase in Kerb-it tonnages in the last two years.

The economy of Easington was, up until the early 1990’s, primarily based upon coal mining, an industry that had a huge influence on the social, cultural and political infrastructure of the area.
As part of that programme in Co. Durham, the East Durham Task Force was established in partnership with the County Council, Town and Parish Councils with Easington at the heart of the initiative.
This is an area where existing provision across Easington District Council is not well developed, and any provision that would adequately address these very specific issues would be a valuable addition.

The HCR was fed by Hetton Lyons, Eppleton and Elemore pits.
These were the first deep mines in the county of Durham and were the inspiration for all of the other deep collieries which came later in Easington District, including the three Seaham pits.
The coal in the Rainton district is just below the surface and in all probability mining had gone on there for a millenium or two before that.

There have been fewer successful insurance claims against the Council, this been possible as the Council is now able to use tracker location data to successfully prove that their vehicles could not have been involved in accidents as claimed.
Linking Easington’s Wardens’ radios to the Police system has increased response times for both the Wardens and the Police as calls are now forwarded to own areas of responsibility.
At the time of the visit the new organisation was providing 4 full time and 2 part time posts, and was using 2 3.5 ton vans and 2 smaller vans which are all constantly in use.
