Crossing it east to west was a series of hills and a sudden drop in elevation known as Andram, the Long Wall.
To the east of the Long Wall, was the River Gelion and its six tributaries draining the Ered Luin, in an area known as Ossiriand, or the Land of Seven Rivers.
In Y.S.  583, Beleriand was mostly destroyed in the War of Wrath by the Valar against Morgoth.

Beleriand first appreared in the Creation of the world before the documented Year 1 of the First Age, the first dwelt upon and founded part of Ennor, and the land on which many events of the First Age happened.
Later sunk by act of Eru by the hand of the Valar, what little of Beleriand left existed in the edges of Eriador in the later Middle Earth of the Second and Third Ages.
Beleriand consisted of four large mountain ranges: Ered Lomin, Ered Wethrin, Ered Gorgoroth, and Ered Luin and many notable rivers, which will be mapped in the sections of Beleriand.

As the highest point in that region and the easternmost hill of Andram, which was standing alone, it had tremendous strategic importance, because it guarded the eastern passage around the Long Wall of the Andram into the southern parts of Beleriand and the northern Taur-im-Duinath.
