  Eastern bloc
The Eastern Bloc (or Soviet Bloc) was a term used in the Cold War to describe the following countries: Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary, East Germany, Poland, the former USSR, and the former Czechoslovakia.
Hungary was invaded by the USSR in 1954 after it had thrown off its pro-Soviet government; Czechoslovakia was similarly invaded in 1968 after a period of liberalization known as the Prague Spring.
The Eastern bloc came to an end with the collapse of the pro-Soviet regimes in Eastern Europe in 1989.
