	East Cape War - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
		The East Cape War, sometimes also called the East Coast War, refers to a series of conflicts that were fought in the North Island of New Zealand from about May 1865 to June 1868.
		There were at least three separate unrelated campaigns fought in the area during a period of relative peace between the main clashes of the Maori Wars, between the end of the Invasion of the Waikato, and beginning of Te Kooti's War.
		The arrival of the Hau Hau in the East Cape effectively destabilized the whole region causing great alarm among the settlers and also seriously disrupting Maori society because of its disregard for traditional tribal structures.

		What became known as the Second Taranaki War was basically the reaction of the Māori to the wholesale confiscation of their land by the colonial government who originally used imperial troops for this, but the commander, General Duncan Cameron, resigned in protest.

		Te Kooti's War was one of the New Zealand Wars, the series of conflicts fought between 1845 and 1872 between the Maori and the colonizing British settlers, often referred to as Pakeha.
		This particular conflict covered most of the East Cape region and the centre of the North Island of New Zealand from July 1868 until mid 1872.
		And that was the end of Te Kooti's War, the longest, most bad-tempered and last of all the New Zealand Wars.
