East China Normal University, one of the country’s highly respected teaching institutions and a research juggernaut, is building a campus across town in Shanghai —; “across” meaning it’s an hour by car just about any time of day in this congested city of 14 million — to house many of its high-tech schools.
With Chinese universities turning out so many grads, the government, and in no small way the growing private industry sector, are counting on an increase in high-tech sector to offset the disparity between jobs created and graduates on the job hunt.
ECNU is well on its way in preparing for the wave of the future in higher education, and as our team prepares to return to Albany tomorrow, the University is happy be in partnership with them.

Alfred University is strengthening its commitment to international education for its students with a formal agreement with East China Normal University of Shanghai to offer a joint degree program, as well as faculty and student exchanges.
Alfred University, with about 2,000 undergraduate and 350 graduate students, is located in a rural village with 1,200 full-time residents.
East China Normal University has 26,000 full-time students and another 15,000 part-time students, and is located in Shanghai, which has 17 million residents.
