East Fork Road in the San Gabriel Mountains above the City of Azusa, California, is a road that gives access off of Highway 39 into East Fork, California and other small townships.
Along East Fork Road there's extensive fire fighting facilities which are staged to combat the many fires that break out among the foothills above Azusa, Glendora, and San Dimas every year.
The road passes over the San Gabriel River and a number of other small streams.

The area closure south of Skalkaho Highway to East Fork Road (hunting district 270-01) remains in effect for motorized traffic due to fire suppression and rehabilitation activities, and potential hazards to the public.
This road is a seasonal closure road during October 15 to June 15 to minimize erosion and provide elk habitat security.
Road rehabilitation activities include such work as replacing culverts with ones of larger diameter, placing rocks in stream channels and around culvert openings to accommodate increased flow, and various other treatments to stabilize forest roads.

The East Fork is one route used for sheep-grazing in the alpine country.
Two miles beyond the mine an unmarked fork in the trail leads either west an additional 2 1/2 miles to a 12,595 foot saddle and then in to the Middle Fork or south an additional 2 miles to a 12,380 foot saddle between Uncompahgre and Matterhorn Peaks.
The trailhead is approximately 2 miles down the East Fork Road at the end of the road.

The Glendora Ridge Road is is one of the best kept secrets in southern California: 22 miles of paved, well-maintained, twisting, low-traffic road nestled in the San Gabriel Mountains just north of the first mountain ridge that runs parallel to the San Bernardino and 210 Freeways.
There's a dirt road that skirts the valley on the north side, but it's not open to the public (the dirt road runs about eight miles to an abandoned tungsten mine).
The road collects sand, silt, and rocks that come down off the mountains, and you have to pay attention to the road surface or you will start to drift in the corners.

The Angeles Chapter of the Sierra Club Hundred Peaks Section reports: "Shoemaker Road was originally intended to be an escape route from the Los Angeles area in case of a nuclear attack.

In 1988, the IDEQ collected surface water samples from drainage ditches near the tailings piles and from the East Fork of the Big Wood River and found elevated concentrations of arsenic, iron, manganese, and zinc (the samples were not analyzed for lead).
The East Fork of the Big Wood River flows along the south side of the tailings piles and is a tributary of the Wood River.
The East Fork and the Wood River are both reported to be used for irrigation, sports fishing, and recreation.

At 10.2 bear left (the right goes back to the private residence, or its tennis court) and pass a sign stating "Road Closed 1 Miles Ahead." Actually, you can drive another 1.4 miles before the old road is gated, just before crossing the North Fork of Hyndman Creek.
Hike east on trail number 166, crossing a plank bridge over the North Fork, and continue up the main fork of Hyndman Creek.

I like the East Fork because as you travel along, you can pull over any time you’d like and fish the river.
The road drops down to the river below the south side of the bridge that allows the west fork to flow under Highway 39.
These wonderful places within the East, West and North Forks are all within one to two hours of Los Angeles, Hollywood and the surrounding area.
