East Fremantle's fortunes continued to wane in 1948 as the club ran 3rd, before embarking on an unusually long period of comparative anonymity between 1949 and 1952 which, after three consecutive 4th place finishes, ended with the unconscionable depths of 5th position and failure to contest the finals for the first time since 1915.
New kids on the block Swan Districts proved to have East Fremantle's measure in the grand finals of both 1962 (by 18 points) and 1963 (22 points), securing a premiership trifecta in the process, while in 1964 it was Claremont's turn to administer the coup de grace with a heart-stopping 4 point triumph.
East Fremantle's level of performance dropped only slightly in 1972 but it was enough to bring them 10 fewer wins overall for the season and to catapult them out of the four.

The final scoreboard read East Fremantle 6.11 (47); Perth 6.6 (42) but, sensationally, post-match claims by Perth that one of East Fremantle's goals had been kicked after the half time bell were upheld by the WAFA Appeals Board and the result of the match - and the destiny of the 1907 flag - was reversed.
East Fremantle's 1914 premiership was the 10th achieved by the club in its first 17 years of existence but the following year the club dipped out of the finals for the first time since their debut season.
East Fremantle's winning streak at WANFL level continued for a total of 35 successive matches before being brought to an end by South Fremantle on 17 May 1947.

Fremantle, pronounced 'Frmantle', was established on 2 May 1829 when Captain Charles Howe Fremantle (after whom the settlement was named) formally took possession of 'the whole of the west coast of New Holland in the name of His Britannic Majesty and the Union Jack was hoisted on the south head of the river'.
Fremantle was formally proclaimed in August 1829 and almost immediately the Surveyor General, John Septimus Roe, laid out a grid system of roads on the isthmus which lay between South Bay and North Bay.

East Fremantle signal cabin was situated on the Eastern Railway between the busy terminus station of Fremantle (Cliff Street) and the timber rail bridge which lead to North Fremantle on the opposite side of the Swan River.
Winter's Block remained in use between East Fremantle and North Fremantle (Cabin 'A') until the 1st September 1902, when the Sykes Lock and Block system of working was extended to North Fremantle and the Sykes Terminal Instruments at East Fremantle were replaced with ordinary Sykes Through Instruments.
During the transition between the old Fremantle (Cliff Street) station and the then new (present day) Fremantle station, the signals at East Fremantle passenger station were worked by 'pull-over' levers until these too were taken out of service on 1st July, 1907.
