GALESBURG - A study done by the Galesburg Sanitary District's director of engineering and maintenance was enough to convince the GSD Board of Trustees on Thursday to decide not to reduce or waive connection fees in East Galesburg.
East Galesburg maintains its own pipes and lift stations, but the Sanitary District treats the village's sewage.
East Galesburg Village President Mike Bartlett appeared before the board last month and asked for a break on the $1.75 per month connection fee.

Incidentally, Galesburg's first brick street was approved for construction when the Galesburg City Council ordered brick for an "experimental" stretch of pavement on South Seminary Street June 10, 1884.
East Galesburg's facility was actually four separate yards, one of which was modernized to continuous tunnel processing in 1952.
For example, a number of houses in the Galesburg area are made from Purington bricks, and the face of the Public Safety Building, 150 South Broad St., is Purington-colored brick.

On my two railfan trips to Galesburg in 1995 AND 2001, I spent almost 24 hours each time at a parking lot by a small warehouse (that never seemed to have any cars parked in it) where the SF goes under the Burlington main.
One is Peck Park, located east of the intersection of Peck St. and N. Pearl St. The ex-ATSF transcontinental line forms one boundary of the park and the ex-BN line to Chicago forms another.

Linwood cemetery is located on the west edge of Galesburg, Illinois, at West Main St. and Linwood Rd on the south west corner, near by-pass 34 and Highway 164.
The City of Galesburg bought those acres from Linwood Cemetery Association for a city cemetery on December 15, 1857.
The City of Galesburg purchased an additional 22 acres on the south east corner of West Main St and Linwood Rd. This principal addition to date is known as East Linwood Cemetery and was purchased around March 19, 1928.

The first donation, a Stearman fuselage courtesy of the Louisiana Boys, has arrived and is being stored in a hangar at the Galesburg Municipal Airport.
