When first settled in the late 19th Century it was known as Dumbleton, but this was generally disliked by residents who lobbied to supplant it with the more glamorous current alternative to coincide with the arrival of the East Hills suburban railway line and concurrent real estate developments of the 1930s and 40s.
The flags of both nations are permanently hung either side of the main altar, and a special Mass attended by US service personnel and diplomatic representatives is conducted there annually in commemmoration of the Battle of the Coral Sea.
Beverly Hills is bounded by Kingsgrove to the east, Peakhurst to the south, Narwee (with which it shares the 2209 post code) to the West and Roselands to the north.

The Minister for Immigration and Multicultural Affairs, Philip Ruddock, has announced the formal closure of the East Hills safe haven, marking the end of the operation that brought about 6000 East Timorese and Kosovars to Australia for temporary protection.
A total of 3965 Kosovars and 1932 East Timorese (including subsequent births) came to Australia during Operation Safe Haven in response to a call by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees to help alleviate the humanitarian crises in Kosovo and East Timor.
