She was one of the largest built and was captained by William Wordsworth's brother John.

On Sunday, april the 13th, the East Indiaman Gotenburg III project was honored by a visit of the Chinese Vice Premier Wu Bangguo together with a large delegation.
It was presented to the "Friends of the East Indiaman Götheborg" in October 1992.
The foundation of the East Indiaman Götheborg III was formed on 5th November 1993 and remains the leader of the project.

The vessel, a large East Indiaman was, at over 1,180 tons, one of the biggest in the East India fleet, then numbering over 80 ships of various sizes.
With the crew and a number of East India troops there was a total of 402 on the vessel when it finally left the port with four other East Indiamen under the protection of a Naval frigate HMS Weymouth.
At about the same time that the vessel floated free, the wind had increased in strength to almost gale force and it was only when the first mate reported that there was at least 12 feet of water in the holds that the gravity of the situation at last dawned upon the captain.

The legendary English East Indiaman Princess Louisa and two other great wrecks found in shallow but treacherous waters off the Cape Verde Islands are set to yield untold treasures.
When she was wrecked with 20 chests of silver treasure aboard, the East India Company tried to hire Lethbridge, already experienced in the Cape Verdes, to salvage her.
The wreck of the Princess Louisa is pitifully described by Captain Gabriel Steward of the English East Indiaman Winchester, which was accompanying her on 19 April, 1743.

The decoration is possibly based on a print illustrating the story of the East Indiaman "Grosvenor" which foundered the 4th of August in 1782 at Pondoland, at the coast of South Africa.
These pieces have mostly dated to the 1730-40's, which is probably why the close match to the actual events connected to the foundering of the East Indiaman "Grosvenor" of 1782 has not been noticed.

She was on an outward bound voyage from the Downs, off south-east Kent, which she had left on the 27th February 1682 in the company of 4 other ships named the Williamson, Nathaniel, Welvaert and Samson, all bound for Bengal except the Johanna destined for Surat.
They lost her about 35 or 40 miles to the east of the Cape, at about 4 o'clock in the morning of the 8th June, during good but dark weather, with a cloudy sky, by turning her ashore.
