The East Kent Railway (EKR) was incorporated in 1853 for the construction of a line from the South Eastern Railway (SER) (North Kent line) at Strood to the city of Canterbury.
In 1850 the railway provision in the north of the county of Kent was very poor.
East Kent Railway (heritage) part of the erstwhile railways built under the 1896 Light Railways Act in East Kent.

Recently we have made enquiries with various heritage railways but the problem is that the electrical, heating and braking systems are not generally compatible with steam locomotives so the value of the unit to a heritage railway is very low.
At the East Kent Railway the EPB Preservation Group are operating their Motor Luggage Van (MLV) using the battery capability that the Southern Region incorporated in their design.
Unfortunately the situation at the East Kent Railway is not really suitable for a museum and so another location had to be found.

The Spa Valley Railway are now pleased to be able to offer the opportunity to drive one of our heritage diesels in association with the South East Locomotive Group.
The locomotive has moved from the East Kent railway, via a guest appearance at the KESR diesel gala, in preparation for the Spa Valley Southern Diesels Gala on 7th and 8th August.
