East Kildonan is a primarily residential community in Winnipeg, Manitoba, located in the northeast part of the city.
It is bounded by the Red River on the west, the lane between Harbison and Larsen Avenues on the south, Panet Road, Blantyre Avenue, and the CPR Marconi tracks on the east, and Oakland Avenue on the north.
The Municipality of Kildonan was established in 1876 and remained primarily agricultural until the beginning of the 20th century.

In 1914, the area east of the river became the R. of East Kildonan, and the area west of the river became the R. of West Kildonan.
In 1924, residents in the primarily rural northern part of East Kildonan, were said to be burdened by high sewer and water taxes from the built-up area to the south.
East Kildonan was incorporated as a City in 1957, and on January 15, 1963, the Police and Fire Departments became separate forces once again.

To the east is Valley Gardens, with a number of small and medium-sized parks and the area's Concordia Hospital in one corner.

When the original Henderson Regional Library opened its doors on December 3, 1961, it was as a result of a truly cooperative effort between the then City of East Kildonan and the municipalities of North Kildonan and East St. Paul.
The branch itself was named after the Henderson family whose relationship with East Kildonan predates the arrival of the Selkirk settlers by five years.
In 1979, Henderson Regional Library and the Munroe branch were amalgamated with the other suburban libraries in the City of Winnipeg to form the present Winnipeg Public Library system.
