The lake is a popular fishing destination in the region, especially for the catching of bullheads.

This monument erected on Pilsbury’s Point on West Okoboji, Lake, Arnolds Park, Iowa, was dedicated by the 25th General Assembly of Iowa on July 25, 1895.
At the east front of the Monument are placed the Gardner and Luce Cabin markers, which were duplicated and reset on July 12, 1976 by The Ladies Of The Lake Chapter, NSDAR.
This marker, on the lawn of the present Okoboji Town Hall on Highway 71, marks the location of the Granger Cabin, one block East, which was occupied by Carl Granger, who was first shot, then decapitated during the massacre.

In the past, the OPA has contributed greatly to protect and enhance the water quality of not only West Lake Okoboji, but also the entire Iowa Great Lakes Watershed.
The Interlakes Protective Association, along with many OPA members, was instrumental in Bridges Bay Resort (resort and water park on East Okoboji Lake) and the county placing a covenant with the property in which LID practices will be used in developing the project.
