The line was extended from Hung Hom (KCRC), the previous terminus, to Signal Hill, where the new station is located, through a tunnel beneath Salisbury Road Hong Kong.
(KCRC is also considering adding more signs in Simplified Chinese at all stations for the convenience of tourists from Mainland China.) Apart from the high fare, the considerable distance between the station and the MTR Tsim Sha Tsui (MTR) station makes interchanging with the MTR no easier than changing trains at Kowloon Tong.
When the KCR West Rail is extended through the Kowloon Southern Link (KCRC) (which has just started construction), the terminus of East Rail will be relocated back to Hung Hom, with East Tsim Sha Tsui becoming an intermediate station on the West Rail.
