East Road - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Tolkien's fiction of Middle-earth, the East Road is the road which runs through The Shire.
The Great East Road was originally laid by the Dwarves during the First Age before the first rising of the Sun, probably during the last Age of Stars, and ran from the Iron Hills through Rhovanion to Khazad-dûm, from which it continued across Eriador to the Ered Luin, and then on into Doriath in Beleriand.
After Arnor was divided in T.A 861, the Great East Road formed the boundary between two of its successor states, Cardolan and Rhudaur.

The road to East Asia's recovery is still rocky but economic growth can be restored so long as the region keeps up economic reforms and provides for the poor, according to a new Bank report.
East Asia: The Road to Recovery, released on September 29, presents an analysis of the crisis, reviews progress in tackling problems, and suggests policy directions that will affect the pace of economic revival.
The Bank believes that East Asia's road to recovery is based on a three-point strategy: enacting governance, financial and environmental reforms to stimulate sustainable growth; protecting low-income groups from the social impacts of the crisis and ensuring that they share in the recovery; and revitalizing international capital flows by restoring investor confidence.

First World War.com - Encyclopedia - Menin Road
The Menin Road - famously portrayed as an area of devastated chaos by renowned artist Paul Nash, with no road at all visible - comprised the key road east out of Ypres.
Considered one of the 'hottest' spots of the Western Front, and certainly in the Ypres Salient, the Menin Road was the scene of frequent artillery fire directed by German forces against the predominantly British presence in the Salient, most notably during the First and Third Battles of Ypres (1914 and 1917 respectively).
A "pal's battalion" was comprised of soldiers raised in the same locality with the promise they would serve with their friends for the duration of the war.

As part of an ongoing Road Safety Campaign to improve road safety within their areas of operation, Shell companies in the Middle East have been holding defensive driving courses for staff to improve their awareness of how they drive and how they should be driving.
However, Alan emphasised that, more often than not, the greatest damage in a road traffic accident to the occupants of a vehicle is caused by the passengers in that vehicle who are not wearing safety belts rather than the other vehicle, or vehicles, involved in the accident or the object with which the vehicle collides.
In fact, the statistics quoted by Alan on road accidents in the UAE and the Middle East were shocking and showed how much more dangerous it really is to drive on the roads in this region than in the US.

A U.S.-backed peace proposal first floated in 2002, the road map sets a series of benchmarks designed to move Israelis and Palestinians over three years to the creation of a Palestinian state that exists in peace with Israel.
It lays out a three-phase process that, according to its preamble, will "bring an end to the Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories that began in 1967" and create "an independent, democratic Palestinian state living side-by-side in peace and security with Israel and its other neighbors." The Quartet is to monitor and facilitate the peace process.
The first phase is designed to end Palestinian-Israeli violence, freeze Israeli settlement activity in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, strengthen and reform the Palestinian government, known as the Palestinian Authority, and ease the harsh conditions created by the Israeli security crackdown on the 3.5 million Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza.
