East Singhbhum is one of the districts of Jharkhand state, India.
The literal meaning of Singhbhum is land of lions : Singh in Hindi means a lion and Bhum indicates land.
The district is bounded on the east by Midanapur district, on the north by Purulia district, both of West Bengal, on the west by West Singhbhum district of Jharkhand state, and on the south by Mayurbhanj district of Orissa.

Orissa land demand turned down Jamshedpur, Nov. 5: The East Singhbhum district administration has denied the claims of the Orissa government to 1,000 acres of land in two revenue villages in Baharaghora block.
The villages in question are on the borders of the Baharaghora district and Orissa’s Baripada district, with the Subarnarekha flowing in between.
During the survey, the East Singhbhum district administration team reiterated their claim to the Baipada counterparts on the basis of a survey done in 1955.
