  The Duke of Wellington's Regiment - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Created by the amalgamation of the 33rd (formed in 1702) and the 76th (formed in 1787) Regiments of Foot during the Childers Reforms, which were a continuation of the Cardwell Reforms, as a result of their respective association's with the 1st Duke of Wellington.
The Duke of Wellington's Regiment (officially, the Duke of Wellington's Regiment (West Riding)) is an infantry regiment of the British Army, part of the King's Division.
Subsequently, the regiment was presented with a new stand of Regulation Colours on the 28 February 1854, emblazoned with its new distinctions of the name of the Duke of Wellington, his crest and motto, by the Colonel of the Regiment, Lieutenant General Sir Henry D'Oyley.

The Regiment has been in existence for 296 years and today is one of the handful that have not been disbanded or amalgamated since the Infantry of the Line was reorganised in 1881.
The Regiment continues to recruit nearly all its soldiers from the old West Riding, the recruiting area stretching from Settle in North Yorkshire through Skipton, Keighley, Halifax, West Bradford, Huddersfield, Barnsley and Rotherham to Sheffield.

The East and West Riding Regiment is a regiment of the British Territorial Army.
The Regiment was formed in 1999 by the amalgamation of the 3rd Battalion, The Prince of Wales's Own Regiment of Yorkshire (Yorkshire Volunteers), the 3rd Battalion, The Duke of Wellington's Regiment (Yorkshire Volunteers) and the King's Own Yorkshire Yeomanry (Light Infantry) due to the reforms implemented in consequence of the Strategic Defence Review.
In November 2004 the Regiment dispatched a composite company (Normandy Company) to Basra, Iraq as part of 4 Armoured Brigade of the Multi-National Division (South East) for a 6-month tour-of-duty.

Arriving at their destination of Carlisle Barracks, PA, the 2nd Cavalry Regiment was rebuilt with new officers and recruits and was assigned to the Union "Army of the Potomac" that was organized under General George McClellan.
In 1916, the regiment was dispatched to the Mexican border to serve as part of the Mexican Punitive Expedition.
Units from the NVA 22nd Regiment attempted to reinforce the their headquarters, but they were cut down in the crossfire of two companies of the 1st Battalion, 12th Cavalry.

Maria Louisa Dorsey was born in the Townland of Rathneegeragh, Myshall Parish, Barony of Idrone East, County Carlow, Ireland.
Shortly after his enlistment, the regiment was mobilized and was sent by steamboat and by rail to Washington, D.C. At that time all cavalry regiments in the eastern theatre were trained at the Cavalry Depot located in Giesboro, Maryland.
The regiment was assigned to guarding stage coaches and wagon trains, since the region was in the midst of a five year Indian war.

In September 2004 The Tyne-Tees Regiment mobilised a platoon of soldiers from across the regiment to support Normandy Company of the East and West Riding Regiment on Op TELIC 5 in Iraq.

When Anti-Aircraft Command was abolished in 1954, 321 Anti-Aircraft Regiment at Bramley was incorporated into 269, whilst 270th incorporated 584 Heavy Anti-Aircraft Regiment at Belle Vue Barracks in Bradford and moved their HQ from Valley Parade to Belle Vue.

The Light Infantry was formed on 10th July 1968 when the lst Battalions of The Somerset and Cornwall Light Infantry, The Kings's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry, The King's Shropshire Light Infantry and the Durham Light Infantry became the Ist, 2nd, 3rd and 4th Battalions, The Light Infantry.
In 2004 the Army Board decided, as part of the future restructuring of the Infantry, that The Devonshire and Dorset Regiment and The Royal Gloucestershire, Berkshire and Wiltshire Regiment should amalgamate and join The Light Infantry.
Under present planning the 5th Battalion The Light Infantry will be formed from The Rifle Volunteers and an element of The Mercian Regiment, whilst Light Infantry badged companies will be retained in Durham and Yorkshire under command of the 4th Battalion The Royal Regiment of Fusiliers and 5th Battalion The Yorkshire Regiment.
