  Eastern Rite - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The term Eastern Rites may refer to the liturgical rites used by many ancient Christian Churches of Eastern Europe, the Middle East, and India that, while being part of the Catholic Church, are distinct from the Latin Rite or Western Church.
Most Eastern Catholics are also directly subject to a patriarch, major archbishop, or metropolitan who has authority for all the bishops and the other faithful of his rite or particular Church (canons 56 and 151 of the Code of Canons of the Eastern Churches).
The Eastern Catholic Churches are in full communion of faith and of acceptance of authority with the see of Rome, but retain their distinctive liturgical rites, laws and customs, and traditional devotions.

Marriage in Eastern Orthodoxy is unbreakable except by death or adultery and is accepted before ordination, while in Roman Catholicism marriage is not allowed for the ordained and (officially) may not be dissolved for any reason.

The Eastern tradition is not opposed to the Immaculate Conception; the opposite is the case.
Many Eastern Orthodox disagree with how the doctrine of original sin has been articulated in the West (they especially dislike the thought of St. Augustine on the matter), and this undoubtedly plays a part in how some of them react to the dogma of the Immaculate Conception.
For that reason, the Eastern Catholic Churches play a significant role in bridging the chasm that exists in many cases between the Catholic Church as a whole and Eastern Orthodox Churches.

I chose Catholicism over Orthodoxy because that is the way the Church was meant to be, in union with the See of Peter, Rome.
I chose Eastern rite, or more specifically the Byzantine rite, in honor of my ancestors (which is also another reason why I chose Catholicism as they did in Eastern Europe where the pressure was great to be Orthodox) and also because I find more comfort in its theological traditions.

Neither Orthodoxy nor Catholicism, in my judgment, can be conclusively identified as the one and true Church by these kinds of rational arguments, as interesting and important as they may be in themselves.
I think that since the Eastern Church ecumenically ratified 2nd Orange it has a great place for Augustine while it may not be the central place that the West seems to assign to him.
The Eastern Church is more mystical and truly devoted to the study of the Fathers and the history of God’s revelations to His Church.

It was said by Ignatius that the theology and praxis of the Eastern Orthodox and the Catholic Byzantine Rite is identical.
Nevertheless, the individual in question is interested in becoming a Catholic, to which I imagine what is meant is Roman Catholic (so many have no knowledge of Eastern Catholicism whatsoever) so I imagine that he or she already knows what to expect as far as worship.

Whether there really is any such thing as Eastern Catholicism, as Stuart will tell you, until around 1970, no. The Orthodox detractors had a point that the Eastern Catholics basically were treated like Roman Catholics allowed to have different rites.
There is a fundamental difference in the ecclesial relationship between the Eastern Catholic Churches and the Roman Catholic Church in regards both to the jurisdiction of the pope, and the applicability of particular Latin doctrines.
On the other hand, the Eastern Catholic particular Churches--21 in all--are not under the patriarchical jurisdiction of the Bishop of Rome, but rather, are in communion with him, and recognize him as primus within that communion.
