Some hundreds bear the name of the royal vill where the hundred court met from the tenth or eleventh centuries, and it is possible that they represent territories administered from the royal centre for taxation purposes whose bounds were set out de novo at this time ( Loyn, 1984 : 142).
Hundred names derived from meeting-place names away from royal vills suggest a more ancient origin for the district court and imply some form of administrative unit on which the hundred was later based ( Yorke, 1995 : 124-5).

When we set out to climb the top one hundred peaks in Lakeland, it seemed a simple enough idea, but when I actually came to research the list, it turned out that there is no single accepted list of peaks, and there is much disagreement about what constitutes a peak in its own right.
For instance, Symonds Knott is not on the list, as most guidebooks do not consider it a separate peak, merely an outcrop of Scafell, and I have therefore not included it as a top one hundred peak.
