In 1961 the Southwestern U.S. Judo Yusanshakai became the Texas Judo Black Belt Association, and in 1962 the Texas Yudanshakai was approved by the Judo Black Belt Federation as a regional association.
Intercollegiate Judo The first record of any U.S. collegiate judo participation was in the early 1930’s when Henry Stone, a young coach at the University of California, Berkeley sent a few students to participate in some tournaments held in San Francisco.
Judo was recognized as in intercollegiate sport at San Jose in 1954, but the growth of judo was definitely hampered over the years by a general lack of understanding and knowledge of the sport by athletic directors and physical education departments chairmen, who have been traditionally reluctant to accept new minor sports.

The Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association (EIWA) is an NCAA Division I collegiate wrestling conference.
The league generally has the third-highest number of All-Americans at the NCAA Championships, behind the Big Ten and Big 12.
The 2005 EIWA conference tournament marked the 100th anniversary of the conference.

The late John Huemer, assistant wrestling coach at Columbia for 27 years, was posthumously honored at the Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association Championships with the presentation of the EIWA Man of the Year Award.
This was a homecoming of sorts as the Lions are marking the centennial of collegiate wrestling, and of wrestling at Columbia this weekend.

Wrestling Horning for the second time on the day, Parziale battled but fell 7-2 to place fourth.
in the December 14 Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association (EIWA) individual rankings, Parziale is 14-4 on the year as has improved his career record to 61-22 to tie Ed Moore ’94 (61-32-1) for 13th place in career victories at Franklin and Marshall College.
To date, Matt is 17-11 for the season with a 4th place finish at the Eastern Michigan Open and a 3rd place finish at the Navy Classic.

 InterMat Wrestling: A Click Above The Rest
On December 13, 2002 alumni from EIWA (Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association) schools met with National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) leadership at the New York Athletic Club to learn about the Washington, D.C. based efforts to change the current enforcement of Title IX.
The suit, filed by the National Wrestling Coaches Association, alleges that in 1996 the Department of Education unlawfully altered the way it interprets Title IX.
That improper rulemaking and its enforcement have led to the arbitrary elimination of hundreds of athletic programs at schools across the country, costing student-athletes both scholarships and their opportunity to compete.

The defending Ivy League champion Harvard wrestling team split a pair of homestand meets this past weekend (Jan. 26-27), downing Army 29-10, while losing a 21-20 decision to Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association (EIWA) powerhouse Lehigh.
The Crimson, who also hold last season's EIWA title, stand at 2-3 in dual meets and 1-1 in the EIWA.
The Army edge was to be short-lived however, as the Crimson team responded in capturing seven of the remaining 10 contests.

Three former Connecticut high school wrestling stars have qualified for the NCAA Division I wrestling championships on March 20-22 in Albany, N.Y. Sacred Heart University's Anthony Reynolds and Jason Cuccolo each won a Colonial Athletic Association championship to earn bids to the NCAA Tournament.
In the EIWA Tournament, Brown sophomore Nick Ciarcia finished third at 197 pounds and earned a spot in the NCAA Tournament.
Ciarcia, who lost by tiebreaker in the EIWA semifinals, was a State Open champion from Xavier-Middletown.

This past summer, the Cornell wrestling program received the most significant gift in its 93-year history when a group of anonymous donors made a gift of $3 million to endow the head wrestling coach's position in honor of former Big Red wrestling standout and member of the Cornell Athletic Hall of Fame Dave Dunlop '59.
The 1958 Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association heavyweight champion, Dunlop, who also was a tackle on the football team, was voted the "Athlete of the Year" in 1959 by the sports board of The Cornell Daily Sun.
Today the center, which is named in their honor, is considered by many to be one of the finest in the country.
