At 3.00pm he came across a grey and white warbler trapped in one of the nets, which, on extraction and cursory examination, he was able to provisionally identify as an Olivaceous Warbler.
Blyth's Reed Warbler is also superficially similar, but it too lacks conspicuous white on the outer tail feathers, as well as having a shorter first primary.

Once, while one of the warblers was in the tree, the other was seen to poise near the tree on fluttering wings, remaining for two or three seconds as nearly stationary in the air as a hummingbird.
The incubation period for the eastern yellow warbler has been recorded as from 8 to 11 days (most observers place it as about 11 days for each individual egg); often, but not always, it begins before the set is complete, making the period appear shorter for the first egg laid.
This warbler is one of the very commonest victims of this parasite, and comparatively few of its nests are not visited at least once by a cowbird in regions where the latter is very common.

Booted Warbler, Hippolais caligata, is an Old World warbler in the tree warbler genus Hippolais.
These are Booted Warbler, which breeds from central Russia to western China, and Sykes' Warbler, Hippolais rama, breeding from northeast Arabia to Afghanistan.
Sykes' is larger and greyer than Booted, and most resembles an Eastern Olivaceous Warbler.

The recent purple patch continued today when an Eastern Olivaceous Warbler was trapped and ringed in the Obs garden during the morning (biometry and more in-hand photos); it was released into the Obs Quarry where it eventually showed well for a while in the early evening.
Commoner migrants included 30 Willow Warblers, 15 Wheatears, 15 Yellow Wagtails, 6 Common Sandpipers, 6 Whinchats, a Whimbrel, a Reed Warbler, a Garden Warbler and a Pied Flycatcher at the Bill, whilst further Pied Flycatchers were at Southwell (3) and Reap Lane.
Willow Warblers continued to feature, with more than 40 at the Bill, but other migrants were thin on the ground; the Bill area otherwise produced just 5 Wheatears, a Ringed Plover, a Whimbrel, a Sedge Warbler and a trickle of Sand Martins and Swallows leaving to the south.

In eastern Kazakhstan, such birds make up a higher proportion (perhaps 15-20%) of the total, which may be an indication of a very eastern breeding origin.
A feature mentioned in Svensson is that of a slight emargination on p4, and a critical examination of a number of specimens of spring fuscus shows that there may be a slight or even quite distinct emargination equal to p7 or p8 (cf plate 8, DB, 20; 38, 1998).

Whereas the Olivaceous Warbler was easily identified, here I was confronted with a bird that I was unable to immediately place to genus, let alone species.
Hippolais warblers, but, perplexingly, none of these seemed to fit either: it was too small for Olivaceous Warbler, but also had the wrong head pattern and too large a bill for Booted Warbler
The call was a Lesser Whitethroat-like ‘teck’ - similar to, but distinctly quieter and less penetrating than, the calls given by the Portland Olivaceous Warbler in July 1999.

In that case we had to separate an Eastern species of a Western one, this last would be monotypical with a breeding range extending Iberian Peninsula and Northwest Africa.
The Melodious Warbler (hippolais polyglotta) is the most widespread hippolais warbler in Spain, showing grayish-green upperparts and wings, and lack of the typical pale wing panel of Icterine Warbler (hippolais icterina).
To compare both species it would be necessary to start saying that Olivaceous Warbler is slightly bigger than Melodious, although overlaps are frequent in some smaller Olivaceous.

Two Steppe Buzzards, the eastern race of Common Buzzard, were patrolling overhead, the bright reflected light highlighting their underparts wonderfully, and these were joined briefly by a very contrastingly plumaged dark phase bird - not a Long-legged Buzzard unfortunately!
Olivaceous and Cetti's Warblers were singing from the wet thicket in the valley and then a White-breasted Kingfisher flew over, carrying food.
Olivaceous Warbler: Noted on 2 days with several along the Zarqa River on 30th, 1 Aqaba on 5th.

 Birdwatching Trip Report from Zakynthos, Greece
Sardinian Warblers were found in the coastal scrub, whilst two pairs of Blue Rock Thrush were busy feeding young in the coastal gorges and an excellent Short-toed Eagle performed well over the cliffs south of the cove being mobbed by 2 Common Buzzards.
Fan-tailed Warblers were constantly vocal in the scrub behind the beach and Serins and Sardinian Warblers were common throughout the resort.
Typical olive grove species (Eastern Olivaceous Warbler, Serin etc) were located here in the day whilst at least 3 Scops Owls called from here during the evening.

This pioneering tour taking in the Eastern Arc Mountains and Pemba Island on a quest for some of the most difficult Tanzanian endemic birds recorded a total of 477 species of which 467 were seen.
A brief stop by the wayside for lunch produced a super Stierling's Wren Warbler but we were pushed for time and we wanted to be up in the mountains before nightfall.
There is absolutely no doubt about it, the Tanzanian Eastern Arc Mountains are definitely hard work and realistically need more time in order for a visitor to see all their treasures.

 Surfbirds Birding Trip Report: Eastern Mediterranean Birding - Lesvos - 12-18th May 2005
Equally as confiding was a smart male Eastern Orphean Warbler, which sang from the highest branch of a small oak tree.
The ‘aah’ factor was awarded to the female Masked Shrike sat tightly on her nest in the angle of two branches of a tree, and she was occasionally attended to by the male bird.
Much less expected was an Olive-tree Warbler singing from deep cover on the densely vegetated slope on the return leg of the walk.

Arabian Warbler and wintering Cyprus Warbler can be seen here and Barbary Falcon is possible over the nearby hills.
The acacia trees and bushes around Ye'elim Holiday Village are well-known as a regular spot for Arabian Warbler as well as Masked Shrike, Palestine Sunbird and Arabian Babbler.
Still further north at a sewage farm near Shizzafon on the Beer Sheva road, sewage farm has Crowned Sandgrouse visiting to drink in the mornings although their appearance cannot be guaranteed.

Due to the problems of identifying the recently-split Western Olivaceous Warbler Hippolais opaca and Eastern Olivaceous Warbler H pallida reiseri in the field, the migration phenology, passage routes and wintering areas of the two species remain unknown.
During spring migration, Western Olivaceous Warblers occurred from early March to early May. No birds were mist-netted in spring at the coast although some were present.
During spring migration, Eastern Olivaceous Warblers were mist-netted from mid March until early May. There were no indications that the species breeds in central Mauritania.

Black-headed Bunting (4-5 singing mm), Linnet, Eastern Orphean Warbler and a Migrant Hawker.
The highlight was the Eastern Imperial Eagle which perched nearby on a dead tree for entire period we were there.
As we had dipped on Olive-tree Warbler we though it looked likely but the area wasa highly industrialised operation with no ground cover at all on the floor and generally lacking in the wildlife typical of small olive groves in Spain.

The flower borders around the edge of this fence were frequented by a Sedge Warbler and a number of different subspecies of Willow Warblers.
An Olivaceous Warbler flitting through an acacia-type of tree was not a problem, but how could I be sure that the Reed Warbler was a fuscus - and as for the Willow Warblers they were altogether more difficult.
The eastern race is slightly darker on the upperparts than the birds in western Europe & your pic shows this well.
