Eastern Ontario is the region of the Canadian province of Ontario which lies between the Ottawa and St.
The eastern section of Eastern Ontario, that is east and south-east of Ottawa, including the towns of Cornwall, Embrun and Hawkesbury is generally a flat plain, dotted with some extensive woodlots and boggy marshes, but is primarily farmland.

The Ottawa River forms part of the eastern boundary, the St Lawrence and Niagara rivers part of the south-eastern boundary, the St Mary's, St Clair, and Detroit rivers part of the southern boundary, and the Rainy River part of the south-western boundary.
Ontario covers a large area and has a wide range of climates, which can be grouped into two main regions-an arctic and subarctic climate area in the north and a humid continental zone in the south.
Ontario is represented in the Canadian Parliament by 24 senators, appointed by the Canadian governor-general in council, and by 99 members of the House of Commons, popularly elected to terms of up to five years.

The density of the forest created a near darkness; however,.by the late 1700s, logging companies were very active in eastern Ontario and increased their activities during the American Revolution and Napoleonic Wars (OMNR, 1991).
Over the next 100 years, the forests in eastern Ontario were greatly depleted due to the mast-making industry.
Diseases were also introduced to the Eastern Ontario forest region from Europe such as the Dutch Elm Disease and the blister rust affecting white pines.

Last year Ontario’s Minister of Natural Resources, David Ramsay, implemented new hunting and trapping regulations to restrict wolf killing across the province as part of a larger Strategy for Wolf Conservation in Ontario (to view the strategy please visit http://www.ene.gov.on.ca/envregistry/023658ep.htm - you will find a link to the document at the bottom of the page).
Ontario has not yet created a province-wide recovery plan for the Eastern wolf (a species of Special Concern) which can still be hunted and trapped in some places, even in certain Provincial Parks.
Protecting Eastern wolves in Algonquin Park by creating a buffer zone outside of the boundaries (where hunting and trapping activities are banned), is a good example of what needs to be done in other regions of the province.

 Winter Storm Bust Over Eastern Ontario - Eastern US Weather Forums
Despite a solid consensus among NWP models Sunday for a 10-15 cm snowfall along the north shore of Lake Ontario beginning Sunday evening and ending Monday morning, most areas between Toronto and Kingston, ON only received between 1 and 3 cm of snow.
The 12Z Sunday radiosonde sounding from CWMW (Maniwaki, Quebec) held one of the keys to the disappointing snowfall forecast for Southeastern Ontario.
 The station lies northeast of the north shore of Lake Ontario and with a well developed northeasterly flow in place over the region, it provided a powerful hint at what the low level environment would be like once the precipitation-bearing mid cloud layers arrived from the southwest.

Nearly 150,000 people were left without power after a powerful storm ripped through much of south and eastern Ontario on Wednesday night.
