Orthodox Eastern Church - LoveToKnow 1911
The Eastern creeds may thus be roughly placed in two classes - the oecumenical creeds of the early undivided church, and later testimonies defining the position of the Orthodox Church of the East with regard to the belief of the Roman Catholic and of Protestant Churches.
In the East, as in Scotland, the history of the church is the key to the history of the nation, and in the freedom of the church the Greek saw the freedom and supremacy of his race.
For this very reason Orthodox Eastern Christians of alien race felt compelled to resist Greek domination by means of independent ecclesiastical organization, and the structure of the church rather favoured than interfered with the coexistence of separate national churches professing the same faith.

What is the Eastern Orthodox Church
The term "orthodox" was used in olden times to define the faith of the Church against the heresies which arose for a while denying mainly the truth of the Holy Trinity, which the "heterodox" holds, and thus the term "Orthodox" became the chief title of the Church.
The Church is "Holy" because it is the sacred Institution for the sanctification of its faithful by the Holy Spirit.
Orthodox Christians also believe that it is the eternally divine and perfect Son of God who was born as a man from the Virgin Mary and lived on the earth as Jesus of Nazareth, the Messiah (Christ) of Israel and the Savior of the world.

 Orthodox Church Calendar Reform
A complete adoption of the Gregorian calendar was, however, not advisable either from a religious or scientific standpoint because the astronomical data concerning the length of the tropical year which lay at the base of the Gregorian reform are now replaced by others.
In the Julian calendar every fourth year was a leap-year, which gave an average length to the calendar year of 365 days 6 hours, which is more than 11 minutes greater than the length of the tropical year.
The new calendar is more accurate than the Gregorian, the average length of whose year differs by 24 or 25 seconds from the length of the tropical year.
