Eastertide - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Eastertide is the archaic English term for what is now called the Easter Season.
Eastertide began on Easter Sunday and continued until Pentecost in the Christian liturgical calendar, thus spanning a total of seven weeks.
The first eight days of the Eastertide are commonly referred to as the Octave of Easter.

Eastertide   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-13)
Eastertide is the 50-day celebration that flows from the Triduum.
Fifty days are a "week of weeks," seven times seven, with a day added so Eastertide has eight Sundays-a mystical sign of eternity.
During Eastertide the church reads through the Acts of the Apostles, which is the sequel to Luke's gospel.

CNP's Online Catalog - Propers for Eastertide
This booklet compiles the Mass Propers for Eastertide (Holy Thursday through Pentecost Sunday) and includes antiphons for Entrance, Offertory and Communion, as well as appropriate psalm verses that can be used to extend the music.
The Entrance and Communion antiphons come from the Sacramentary; the scriptural citations for the Offertory antiphons (which have never been translated into English) come from the Graduale Romanum, and are realized with text from the New American Bible, the approved translation for liturgy in the United States.
The psalm tone for Eastertide (other seasons have different tones) is taken from CNP's Universal Music for Morning Prayer, and sets the English Proper texts to an easily-grasped melody.

Catholic Culture : Liturgical Year : The Time Of Easter or Eastertide (Activity)
Wherever there are neophytes, the Easter season, and particularly the first week, is the period of postbaptismal catechesis or mystogogy The community shares with them a deepening understanding of the paschal mystery and an ever greater assimilation of it in daily life through meditation, participation in the Eucharist, and the practice of charity.
The moral requirements of the new life are recalled throughout Eastertide.
They are governed by the principle enunciated by St. Paul that, risen with Christ, the Christian must raise his desires to heaven, detach himself from earthly pleasures in order to love those of heaven.

Eastertide: Prayers for Lent Through Easter from the Divine Hours   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-13)
A collection of formal prayers intended for use during the forty days of Lent and throughout the Easter celebration is an introduction to the fixed-hour prayer tradition, outlining a program of daily prayer, psalms, biblical readings, and hymns culled from The Divine Hours: Prayers for Springtime.
In her acclaimed trilogy, The Divine Hours, Phyllis Tickle introduced modern Christians to the time-honored practice of "praying the hours." In this exquisite new volume, she provides a vibrant program of prayer dedicated to the anticipation of Christ’s resurrection.
Newcomers to this beloved tradition will find that Eastertide is the perfect introduction to joining the ancients in the tradition of fixed-hour prayer.

We thank you for the Easter sign that life is victorious over death, that love at last overcomes hatred, and that the light finally is more powerful than darkness.
Eastertide is the season when the spirit of the Risen Christ fills the world and seeks to enter our heart and our home if only we will bid him enter.
May you catch at least a glimpse of this spirit in the faces around you this morning, and about your supper table this evening, and wherever you are at this time tomorrow.

Mourning at Eastertide: Revisiting a Broken Liturgy
This review revisits the performance of a liturgy in Eastertide by this congregation of Christian believers on a National Day of Mourning.
Christians always stand in the "rubble" of everyday experiences of violence and use broken words, traditions, symbols, myths, and stories to invoke the Presence of God.
Richard Schechner uses "transformance" to describe how ritual performances "make happen what they celebrate." What Christian liturgy awaits and celebrates, particularly at Eastertide, is the Presence of a "Holy Spirit" who sustained and reanimated the life, ministry and memory of the Crucified One.

I consider it an unavoidable, albeit unwritten, rubric that the Sprinkling Rite be a part of every Sunday liturgy during Eastertide.
This is so important to the season that the Church has given us a special prayer for this "Aspersion" rite during Eastertide, recalling, as does the blessing prayer at the Vigil and the use of water in our salvation history.
Sustain the baptismal celebration of Eastertide by the abundant and overt use of water throughout the season.

 Eastertide Offensive
The Eastertide Offensive began when 200,000 North Vietnamese soldiers under the command of General Vo Nguyen Giap waged an all-out attempt to conquer South Vietnam on March 30, 1972.
The offensive is a tremendous gamble by Giap and is undertaken as a result of U.S. troop withdrawal, the strength of the anti-war movement in America likely preventing a U.S. retaliatory response, and the poor performance of South Vietnam's Army during Operation Lam Son 719 in 1971.
