A large portion of the famous Arundel collection of antique marbles was at Easton Neston until the mid-18th century, when it was bequeathed to the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford.
Easton Neston was originally conceived by Christopher Wren and begun in the 1690s for Lord Lempster, Wren's kinsman.

The British Architectural Library is delighted to announce that it has purchased at auction the most important 17th century architectural model still in private hands: the design model for Nicholas Hawksmoor’s Easton Neston, Northamptonshire, commissioned by William Fermor, 1st Baron Lempster (1648-1711).
The model was sold this week by Sotheby’s, during an auction of the contents of Easton Neston for a hammer price of £150,000 (plus buyers premium and VAT).
The Easton Neston model is a key addition to the 17th and 18th century drawings and manuscripts collections, which include other material by Hawksmoor.

The news that Easton Neston, the magnificent Baroque house in Northamptonshire of 1695-1710 designed by Nicholas Hawksmoor, is up for sale for 50 million [pounds sterling] came as a shock, and not only to the immediate family of its owner.
Not only has the Fermor-Hesketh family been at Easton Neston for almost five centuries but the present Baron Hesketh seems to be reasonably well-heeled and the great houses of England no longer seem to be in danger.
This was the case at Tyntesfield in Somerset, rescued in 2002 by the National Trust.

Although the model was loaned for many years to the RIBA (1920s-1950s), for most of its life it remained at Easton Neston.
When the contents of the house were sold at auction in May 2005, the model was purchased by the RIBA with the generous support of the National Heritage Memorial Fund, the National Art Collections Fund, the British Architectural Library Trust and the Museums, Libraries and Archives Council PRISM Fund.

The home was originally put on the market for  £50 million last May but when it didn't sell the 3,300 acres of farms and farmland were divided into separate lots, most of which have already been sold.
The main manor, Easton Neston, a Grade I listed baroque home designed by Nicholas Hawksmoor and built in 1695 was sold for almost £15m by Lord Hesketh.

The auction of art treasures from the Easton Neston estate of Tory peer Lord Hesketh fetched a total of £8.7m - nearly £4m more than expected.
Easton Neston has been the seat of the Femor-Hesketh family since 1535, but the present Grade I listed house was built by Nicholas Hawksmoor - a protege of Sir Christopher Wren - in about 1700.
The estate has 20 staff who run a pheasant and partridge shoot, and a famous jump racing track with a stiff uphill finish.

The roof of the Easton Neston model comes off, and the compartments and floors within can be removed, until the house is an empty shell.
Hind was in a good mood: he felt that the purchase of the Easton Neston model might well be what his curatorship would be remembered for.

Lord Hesketh is the great-grandson of Sharon, who as the daughter of California banker William Sharon took a $2 million dowry aboard her marriage to Sir Thomas George Fermor-Hesketh 125 years ago.
As Lady Hesketh, Sharon continually added to the Easton Neston collection, with silver from Tiffany and Shreve and art from around the world.
