		The NCRR has recently begun is already carrying out some upgrades between Raleigh and Pine Level (2 miles east of Selma) including sidings and CTC signals, allowing for 80mph operation.
		That would be great for Eastrans, but everywhere east of Pine Level is a 50mph, unsignalized line.
		Goldsboro Union Station would be the terminal for Eastrans on the NCRR, and a stop on the Raleigh-Wilmington intercity line, if either of those proposals ever gets off the ground.

		Frangos and officials in other towns along the route see Eastrans as a way to promote economic development, encourage compact growth, and make their communities more attractive to commuters.
		So far, the Eastrans movement has been led by officials in towns along the rail lines, and they say they will need help to get the trains running.
		One of the cost saving features of EasTrans was that it relied on the scheduled upgrades to sections of track for use by TTA, Amtrak passenger service to Wilmington, and Amtrak Acela service.

		The premise is that by giving commuters an option - other than their cars - that can compete (or actually beat) travel times by car that perhaps people would chose to live in places like downtown Wilson, Selma, Zebulon, Garner, etc. where there are inventories of underutilized buildings, homes, etc..
		I really like how Eastrans has that sort of grassroots appeal and resourcefulness, whereas the TTA line smacks of the pork-barrel politics found in big city transit agencies like MTA or CTA or whatever.
		The reason Eastrans, aka EastRail, doesn't go to Greenville is that there would be too many conflicts with existing freight service.

		Bus issued City Savers are a paper ticket generated from the drivers ticket issuing machine, as were the former short trip tickets.
		There are 3 bus companies whose services terminate within or pass through the City Saver area, namely, Melbourne Bus Link, Eastrans and National Bus Company.
		City Saver single tickets cannot be purchased on NBC buses due to the existence of that companys' section based fares which are a cheaper option.

	Goldsboro News-Argus \| News: Study favors rail link for Goldsboro
		Knightdale officials have been working for three years to rally support for Eastrans, a proposed 100-mile-long, U-shaped rail system that would connect Raleigh to Goldsboro and Wilson.
		Although the N.C. Department of Transportation and the Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization underwrote a portion of the study's cost, Eastrans does not have any commitments yet for its construction costs.
		Fragos is presenting the report to various groups, trying to build momentum.

		The rail replacement project will allow today’s heavier freight trains to move faster and more efficiently and promote better service in eastern North Carolina.
		The track and the signal projects will improve the railroad’s capacity to eventually carry commuter trains such as those being considered by Eastrans.
		The Centralized Traffic Control project will raise this part of the corridor to the same standard as that between Raleigh and Charlotte.

		Several issues related to the transit element of the LRTP merit continued discussion; such as the I-40 HOV/HOT proposal, the EasTrans commuter rail proposal, the CORE transit loop concept, and a recommended long-range transit vision study endorsed by the TAC to work with TTA and NCDOT to develop a fundable regional transit master plan.
		TAC Action: Hold public hearing to receive comments. That the TAC discuss recommended steps for addressing items meriting additional review and action both prior to and after adoption of the 2030 LRTP in September, 2004.
