| | Synergy :: Perspectives on Policy |
 | | Scotland has relatively poor health, on many indicators, compared to other European countries, but the picture is not uniformly bad; within Scotland there are marked socio-economic disparities in health, with some social groups and communities experiencing very good, and others very bad, health and life expectancy. |
 | | The Scottish Executive is committed to improving the health of the population of Scotland by improving life circumstances (housing, jobs, transport etc), lifestyles (smoking, drinking, diet etc), and focusing on the major causes of death and distress (heart disease, stroke, cancer, mental health sexual health, dental and oral health, and accidents). |
 | | If we were to succeed in improving the health of the population of the whole of Scotland to that of the residents of Eastwood, Scotland would be placed towards the top of a list of the healthiest countries in Europe and the world. |
